Boba Fett's trailer book is here - and it feels like the beginning of something great

It's about time! The trailer for "The Book of Boba Fett" is finally here, and the series, which hits theaters on December 29, has just released its first trailer, a much-needed new vibe for the Star Wars universe. You can, of course, watch it below.

The footage begins with a sign that just because it's a Mandalorian spin-off doesn't stop the cool stuff, a robotic spider crawls across the desert. It has a mouth that looks like a large clear container, which contains red liquid and other things. It then crawls in front of a building where the main character, a bounty hunter, receives and wears a symbolic helmet.

The video begins with Fett (Temuera Morrison) saying, "I am not a bounty hunter." His legacy is still alive as someone else replies, "I hear you're not." People still know that he is the bad man he once was.

The video has the feel of a crime syndicate war, a la The Sopranos. Be sure to check it out:

The bulk of the trailer is a continuation of the previous one: Fett has taken the throne of Jabba the Hutt and is about to rule the criminal underworld of the Star Wars universe. Nevertheless, he claims to want to be a better underworld boss. One who rules not through fear, but through respect. After Fett disposes of Viv Fortuna, he claims the throne and has dinner with the underworld bosses he now needs as allies.

Immediately, he finds that he has a target on his back. Like Jabba, Fett needs to resort to violence to make things work. Or at least Fenech Shand (Minna Wen) will have to.

The trailer doesn't give a nod to other big names, but a big leak in the Book of Boba Fett suggests that two more Star Wars heavyweights will appear.

Since Disney has given no indication as to when "The Mandalorian" Season 3 will be, many see this spinoff as a treat to keep us waiting.

Nevertheless, it looks like this could be the beginning of something much bigger, a crime show that the Star Wars Universe needs to live and grow out of the shadow of the completed Skywalker saga. [The folks at Lucasfilm have signed on directors for the new Star Wars films, including Patty Jenkins and Taika Waititi, and while there's a lot of work ahead, it's not hard to imagine that this Disney Plus show (and the others listed below) will help set the stage for a new saga ... Disney has already launched MCU Phase 4 with the likes of "Loki" and "Wander Vision."

As seen below, Wen shared a photo of swag handed out to the cast and crew of The Book of Boba Fett. And the goodies are The Book of Boba Fett S.1, which we will now read. The acknowledgment that this is the first season of the show suggests that there may be a (planned) second season.

So if "The Book of Boba Fett" is as good as the trailer looks, we have reason to believe that this is the beginning of another series. [Not only "The Book of Boba Fett," but also shows about the "Star Wars: Andor" series, Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Lando have been confirmed. It is unclear which of these shows will tie into the upcoming film, but "The Book of Boba Fett" definitely sounds like the start of something new in a galaxy far, far away.
