Created by geek writer Kevin Smith, Masters of the Universe: Revelation is a direct sequel to the Mattel animated feature He-Man and the Masters of the Universe that kids grew up watching in the 1980s. Smith envisioned a more adult-oriented series for fans of the original, and Netflix delivered.

Smith also tweeted that they had already "recorded a live orchestral score for Episode 10" and "finished the sound mix for Episode 8" before saying that Part 2 was "officially picture locked, almost wrapped and ready."

Masters of the Universe: Revelation Part 2 features a stellar and top-notch voice cast. Prince Adam/He-Man is played by Chris Wood, and his nemesis Skeletor is voiced by versatile voice actor and sci-fi/fantasy legend Mark Hamill. Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Teela, who becomes the show's protagonist after the first episode.

New cast members for part two include Method Man (as Crump Chump), Dee Bradley Baker (as Savage He-Man), and Danny Trejo (as Ram Man).

Masters of the Universe Continuing the story of He-Man and Masters of the Universe. In Part 1, Eternia is thrown into turmoil after multiple secrets about Grayskull Castle are revealed. Skeletor launches an attack on Grayskull Castle at the same time that Teela, Duncan's daughter and Sorceress of Grayskull Castle, is given the title of Knight as the new Man at Arms. During the battle, Prince Adam's identity as He-Man is revealed, and it is revealed that Grayskull Castle hides the Hall of Wisdom, where the orb contains all the magic that flows through Eternia. He-Man uses his sword of power to stop the orb from exploding, splitting the orb in two and erasing magic from Eternia. When it appears that both Skeletor and He-Man were killed in the battle, Teela feels betrayed by Prince Adam's secret and leaves her position as weapons officer.

Of course, He-Man and Skeletor are not actually dead. When Teela learns that she must retrieve the "Sword of Power" to save Eternia, she sets out with the remaining Masters of the Universe. But just as things are turning around for the heroes, Skeletor suddenly returns, stabs He-Man, and steals the Sword of Power.

In a massive cliffhanger, part two will likely focus on Skeletor's rise to power and the effects of the stabbing He-Man.

Smith discussed the philosophy behind Masters of the Universe: Revelations. He said, "We used a mythology created by Mattel. It was kind of a tribute to all the versions of 'Masters of the Universe. So I thought, 'When this comes out, fans will sit up and take notice. And I was half right.'

Smith admitted that he was surprised by fans' negative reaction to He-Man's supposed death and defended his decision to focus on Teela's adventures. He said, "Teela was one of the first figures released, and she fights right alongside [He-Man] in every episode of the cartoon. So I'm not bringing anything to this piece that says, 'I've never seen anything like this.' We have input from people who may not have seen the movie or the TV show before. They seem to think they've done something irreparable to their favorite characters. There will be a lot of he-man in the next five episodes. Ours is one long story with chapters." [Wood, who plays Prince Adam/He-Man, told Variety: "I read it and said, 'Wait, that's ....... This is how it's going to be. This is... I'm like, 'There's more? Because [in the original] there wasn't any sense of urgency or life-and-death in the fight between Skeletor and He-Man. If they wanted to set the whole world on fire in terms of destroying the fandom, they would have taken He-Man out and been like, 'This is it, he's gone, goodbye. What they've done now is they've found a really interesting way to subvert the dynamics of the show and raise the stakes to a point where the original story has never been seen before."
