All electric range rovers are coming in 2024 — and 5 more will follow

It's official: an all-electric Range Rover is coming in 2024. In addition, Land Rover has announced plans for five more all-electric vehicles over the next five years. And by the end of the decade, all Land Rover vehicles will be electric.

All this means that people who move to the countryside and decide they need a huge 4WD vehicle to dominate the country roads will be able to do so with less noise and pollution.

This announcement came as Land Rover unveiled the 2022 Range Rover. The Range Rover is built on a new flexible architecture that will form the basis for future Land Rover vehicles, including hybrids and all-electric models.

Unfortunately, we do not know much about the upcoming EV. Initially, it was expected to share its suspension with the all-electric Jaguar XJ model, but that has since been cancelled, and we have no idea what the future holds.

However, while the 2024 Range Rover EV aims to compete with other SUVs on the market, such as the BMW iX and Mercedes EQS SUVs, it is unlikely that it will feature a design significantly different from the ICE-powered Range Rovers we see on the road today.

After all, Land Rover has been keeping internal combustion engines around for quite some time. Its goal is to achieve 60% of all-electric sales by 2030, rather than announcing a definite end date for the ICE model.

Interestingly, Land Rover program director Nick Miller told Autocar that the architecture is capable of supporting hydrogen powertrains. However, given the obvious problem of nearly zero hydrogen infrastructure, we will have to wait and see how likely that is.

Still, we can speculate on what an electric Range Rover could offer, given that Range Rover will introduce a mild hybrid model in 2022 and a plug-in hybrid model in 2023.

The 2022 model will feature wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad on the center console, and an infotainment system fully integrated with Amazon's Alexa. This means that not only can Alexa do everything from reading the news to controlling the smart home, but it can also use its voice assistant to control the car's internal architecture.

Its infotainment system will have a 13.1-inch curved display with tactile feedback and a 13.7-inch driver display with more screen space. There will also be a separate 11.4-inch rear infotainment display, all screens offering HDMI input and Wi-Fi (when connected to a hotspot). an 8-inch touch control panel will be available as an option to control various seat functions. control various functions of the seat.

All of this sounds decadent and luxurious, but the tactile feedback deserves special attention. No touch screen will ever be as good as a button, but it may be better than the glossy, unresponsive screens found in today's cars.

The 2022 Range Rover will also feature a new electric vehicle architecture that will allow wireless communication. This means that it will be able to receive updates wirelessly to add new features or improve existing ones.

It will be some time before we know more details about the Range Rover EV. But whatever Land Rover's current plans, it's going to be one fancy car. We can only hope that it comes with enough range to make up for it all.
