Tesla Cyber Truck looks weirder than ever with new off-road footage

There is something quite mysterious about Tesla's cybertruck. For all of Tesla's hype about EVs, we have never seen the Cybertruck in action. Until now.

A video posted on Twitter by Harsimran Bansal shows what appears to be an official Tesla promo for the cybertruck. Bansal apparently saw this at a Tesla showroom, although it has not yet been released on Tesla's social media channels.

Honest? It looks even stranger when the cyber truck hits the road. Considering how strange it looked on stage next to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, this is saying something.

It was clear from the start that the Cybertruck was a truly bizarre looking car. It looked as if it had just stepped out of a PS1-era cyberpunk game after being filtered through a fever dream. This is especially true of the flat slope at the rear of the truck. [I especially notice the thin bar of light across the hood instead of the headlights. Elon Musk is not wrong when he says that the Cyber Truck is unlike any other on the road.

Musk even admits that the design of the CyberTruck may not work in its favor for that very reason. It has little in common with the electric cars that are out there and the herd of electric trucks that will be on the road. But that is why Musk is so pleased with the Cyber Truck, and even claims that it "looks like it was built by aliens from the future."

I certainly wouldn't go that far, but there is a reason the Cyber Truck looks the way it does. The truck appears to have been designed as a hybrid option and has all the performance of a sports car. Also, the outer shell is designed to be "nearly impenetrable" to protect the occupants from the outside world.

Elon Musk showed off this last fact when he unveiled the Cybertruck, but famously failed with the "Tesla Armor Glass" on the windows. For those who have not yet seen the video, the Cybertruck's steel exoskeleton was able to withstand blows from sledgehammers and 9mm pistol bullets, but the glass was broken by blows from a metal ball.

Strangeness aside, the Cybertruck will have a number of great features. These include a "full self-drive" autopilot, a large flat bed that can accommodate a variety of add-ons, a luxurious interior, and a range of over 500 miles for the more expensive tri-motor models. The model's 0-60 time is also expected to be under 2.9 seconds.

The Cybertruck was originally scheduled to appear later this year, but has been delayed until late next year. According to Musk, the delay is due to Tesla's inability to produce enough of the 4680 battery cells needed for the car, and that rushing production now would make the truck too expensive. According to Musk, "literally" $1 million.

Sadly, mass production of this EV will not be available until 2023, which is still quite a while before you can afford a cyber truck. If you want a car that stands out this much.
