Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra Rendering features a horrible notch

Update: New specs leaks reveal about the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

For the eighth generation of Samsung's Galaxy Tab line, the company is reportedly preparing three models. Samsung's Galaxy Tab S7 and S7 Plus were the only two, but this year will apparently also see the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, which is said to have enhanced internal features and a screen that will be supersized to an unprecedented 14.6 inches.

Unfortunately, this premium tablet is said to introduce something a bit more controversial: the introduction of a notch, the first in the series' history.

This is according to a new rendered image created by reliable leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks) for 91mobiles. As can be seen from the rendered image, the notch is small compared to the huge screen canvas, but still somewhat distracting.

While Apple has a notch on the iPhone for the advanced facial recognition hardware needed to make Face ID work (as well as the new MacBook Pro), 91mobiles claims there are no such plans here. That is simply because there is not enough space in the bezel to house a camera as there was in past models, and indeed the other two Tab S8s, and apparently a notch is unlikely to be employed.

This logic is somewhat obvious. However, a tablet with a 14.6" display is heavy, and one would naturally not want to make it any larger with bulky bezels to more effectively hide the camera. Nonetheless, it may come as a bit of a surprise that the company did not use the pinhole camera found on the Galaxy S21 device.

The back looks fairly orthodox, with dual rear cameras and a magnetic strip for attaching the S Pen, while the 14.6-inch display appears to be suitable for annotating and creating digital art.

The site states that the design is "not 100% complete" and may undergo minor changes. As for dimensions, it is set at 325.8 x 207.9 x 5.4 mm, in other words, taller and slimmer than the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus.

The report states that all three tablets will appear in November or December, which goes against the words of leaker IceUniverse, who previously stated that we should expect them next year along with the Galaxy S22.

Regardless of when it launches, if you like the sound of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, we suggest you buy it soon. According to reports last week, it will be manufactured in limited quantities for select regions, and once sold out, it is unlikely to be restocked.
