Release date, trailer, cast and latest news for unknown movies

The "Uncharted" movie is coming. Yes, one of Sony's most beloved PlayStation IPs, with four titles and several spin-offs, is coming to the big screen. The film adaptation has been in the works for some time, and after years of writers and actors coming and going, it is finally on track for an early 2022 release. As proof, a new trailer for "Uncharted" has just been released.

Fans were eagerly awaiting Nathan Fillion to play the role of the rogue treasure hunter, but in the end Tom Holland will take the role, with Mark Wahlberg as Sully. You are not alone in shaking your head at this casting. But there is a good chance that the two actors will surprise the naysayers and make it big.

It's been more than a decade since the idea of an "Uncharted" film adaptation was first floated, and now it's reaching a critical juncture. Filming wrapped last year, and while Sony has yet to release a trailer, a slew of new photos of Holland and Wahlberg in character have certainly whetted our appetites. As well as summarizing what we know so far about the "Uncharted" movie, you can check them out below.

Nathan Drake is alive and well on the big screen, at least in this trailer. Nathan Drake (Holland) tends bar and talks with Sully (Wahlberg) about treasure. Set to Train's "Ramble On," the video showcases familiar action shots and features Antonino Banderas as an unnamed villain.

"Uncharted" will be released in theaters on February 18, 2022, and then on Netflix, thanks to a streaming rights deal between Sony and Netflix.

Bad news for those enjoying the new film at home during the pandemic: Uncharted will not be released simultaneously on Netflix in February. You'll have to wait until the film is done showing on the big screen. The film is set to debut on Netflix within two years of the film's release, and that will be all the information we'll have until it hits the box office.

Filming on the "Uncharted" movie has wrapped, but we are still waiting for the trailer. In the meantime, shots and set photos from the film have appeared on Twitter via the actors and the film's official Twitter account.

Naughty Dog, the developer of Uncharted, even released what appears to be behind-the-scenes photos of Nolan North and Tom Holland, the voice actors for Nathan Drake. Some fans speculated that the original Nate might make a cameo in the film, while other comments were divided between excitement and the usual Twitter routine of criticizing what has yet to be released.

We may be waiting for a trailer, but Sony snuck a few seconds of "Uncharted" movie footage into an unrelated video posted on its YouTube channel. Wahlberg's mustache-less Sully is dressed in a suit, and in the next shot he removes his bow tie and appears to have performed a one-liner on Holland's Drake. He is pensive. Since this clip is only about two seconds long and has no context, it is, frankly, difficult to decipher what is going on. However, it can be seen here at 1:33.

As for the cast, the cat is still out of the bag. We know that Tom Holland will play young Nathan Drake and will have his first adventure with Mark Wahlberg's Victor 'Sully' Sullivan, but no details about the rest of the cast.

The two are a controversial choice, but we will reserve judgment until we see the film. Wahlberg was originally set to play Drake at one point, but after 10 years of waiting for the movie to come to fruition, he was upgraded to "an old leader."

Sophia Taylor Ali ("Grey's Anatomy") has been tapped to play Chloe Fraser, Nate's past love interest and fellow treasure hunter in the game series. Fraser made his debut in "Uncharted 2" and took on the role of the protagonist in "Uncharted - The Lost Legacy: The Lost Legacy". Given that young Nate accompanies Sally on her first outing, the movie may show a relationship between the two that was not seen in the game.

"Uncharted" players know that Drake will be linked to Elena. Elena began by documenting his treasure hunting before becoming romantically involved with Drake. It is unknown if this character will appear in the film, and the IMDB page for the "Uncharted" movie does not have enough information to begin speculating.

Antonio Banderas is also in the film and is rumored to be an antagonist in the movie. German actress Patricia Meaden is listed as a "Spanish woman" and German-born Sarah Petrick, who also speaks Spanish, plays a "young woman," which leads one to assume that at least part of the film will be set in Europe. Admittedly, it's not much of a stretch. Rounding out the cast is Tati Gabriel ("The Adventures of Sabrina") as Braddock. The rest of the cast and characters have yet to be revealed.
