The Google Pixel6 pre-order was confusing, but the waiting list can help

The Google Pixel 6 looks like a very impressive phone so far. Fortunately, however, there is currently a waiting list available for models that are out of stock.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are still in stock, but there are plenty of models that are not; while you may not be able to get one on launch day, October 25, getting on the waiting list should relieve some of the pressure to check for restocking.

The Pixel 6 launch date was something of a confusing day. Pre-orders opened at the same time Google's launch event ended, and Google's store appeared to have succumbed to the pressure of demand. Buyers were met with error messages during the checkout process, and inventory levels and delivery estimates fluctuated.

I myself experienced these issues when trying to order a Pixel 6 Pro; Google repeatedly told me that the model I chose (128GB Stormy Black) was out of stock during the checkout process, removed it from my basket, and made me try again.

In the end, my order went on and off for several hours and fortunately is scheduled to arrive on October 26. However, it did not look good for Google, as their system did not seem to be able to handle the demand for the Pixel 6. This also comes weeks after users experienced similar problems trying to order the iPhone 13 from the Apple Store.

Unfortunately, many Pixel 6 models, especially the higher storage options, are out of stock. The good news, however, is that it's very easy to get on the waiting list: simply go to the Google Store, select the model, color, and storage variant you want, and Google will present you with one of two options.

If it's in stock, like the Stormy Black 128GB model, you can order it with no problem. If it isn't, Google will display a button to add it to the waiting list. A message will then flash, promising to email you when the selected phone becomes available.

Unfortunately, this option is not available on the new Pixel Stand 2. Google may have announced a wireless charging stand at the Pixel 6 launch event, but has not confirmed when it will arrive.

The Google Store is no help either, simply stating that the $79 accessory is "coming soon"; according to TechRadar, Google confirmed that it will not arrive on October 25, but did not clarify any sort of release window.

So those who have yet to get their hands on the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro will have to wait patiently for an email from Google. Alternatively, they can purchase them from another retailer, such as a carrier or another major retailer. To see what else is out there, check out our list of the best Pixel 6 pre-order deals.
