Samsung Galaxy Unpack Part 2 is Today - What to Expect

Following Apple's Unleashed and Google's Pixel events, today is Samsung's turn to step into the technological limelight and hold its own launch event.

After the Galaxy Unpacked event in August, where the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Watch 4 were announced, one might have expected Samsung to be busy with product launches for the rest of 2021. That's because Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 takes place today (October 20). The only question is what will actually be revealed.

Here's everything we know (and don't know) about today's Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event, including how to watch it live.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 will be streamed live on Samsung's YouTube channel today (October 20) at 10am ET / 7am ET / 3pm ET.

However, you may want to follow it on Tom's Guide instead. We already have the Samsung Unpacked Part 2 Live Blog up and running, including the live stream below. This blog will bring you all the official news as it is announced, in addition to any last minute rumors and leaks.

Unfortunately, Samsung has revealed little about what we can expect today, meaning all we can do now is speculate.

We do, however, have some advance notice. One of them is very brief and does not say much.

Some online speculation has it that the combination of app icons and multiple colored boxes in the above event invitation is a reference to Samsung's One UI 4 update, which is currently in beta for Galaxy S21 users. Therefore, perhaps it will be officially rolled out here.

The second teaser is a bit longer, but again no products are mentioned. The video shows a Galaxy Studio alien fiddling with the color wheel, ending with the text "Get ready to unfold something unmistakably you." The use of color and the word "unfold" has led sites, including Sammobile, to speculate that Samsung may be using Unpacked Part 2 to show off more colors for its foldable phones.

Further weight to that theory lies in the name. After all, the event is called Unpacked Part 2, and it was at the first Galaxy Unpacked event of the year in August that we first saw the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. [If it's not a new color for the Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, what else could it be?

Now, Samsung will announce the next Galaxy S22 unusually early. There are rumors that it will be announced in late February ahead of Mobile World Congress 2022, but to announce it four months in advance is strategically odd. That is, unless Samsung was somehow able to move up the release date significantly and overcome the component shortages caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Another option is the possibility that Samsung will release the Galaxy S21 FE, a cheaper version of the Galaxy S21 flagship. However, the most recent rumors suggest a January release is likely.

Now, Samsung is a huge conglomerate, dabbling in many aspects of everyday technology, from TVs to refrigerators. In Korea, Samsung even offers life insurance. It is quite possible that Samsung wants to hold this part two event to highlight upcoming home appliances and other electronic devices unrelated to phones.

Samsung also has a presence in the laptop category, but its machines seldom attract the attention of technology enthusiasts. Perhaps Samsung wants to revamp its image in this and other categories.

Or perhaps Samsung wants to jump into an entirely new category, such as gaming. For example, Lenovo is rumored to be working on a portable Android game console called the Legion Play that could compete with both the Steam Deck and the Nintendo Switch OLED.

Basically, we don't know what's coming. But we'll find out very soon, so stay tuned to our Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 live blog and check back for all the latest information on the announcement.
