Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Concept teases the death of the camera bump

While the Samsung Galaxy S22 announcement is at least a few months away, rumors, leaks, and rendered images of Samsung's next Android flagship keep coming out. And the latest new information is a rendered image of the new Galaxy S22 Ultra.

And they look great, thanks to the "water drop" design on the largest phone expected in the Galaxy S22 series. This design makes one imagine that all five of the rumored Galaxy S22 Ultra's rear-facing cameras will be independent, rather than camera bumps or modules. The cameras appear to stick out a bit from the back of the phone, but if this design comes to fruition, it will be less than the camera bumps seen on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

How legitimate are these renderings? They were created by rendering artist Parvez "Technizio Concept" in collaboration with LetsGoDigital, who consulted with Korean source "Super Roader" and gave the details to Khan to make it happen.

In other words, there is definitely something behind this concept. After all, it appears to have the DNA of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, deinsg imagine. Given that the Samsung Galaxy Note Ultra 21 will not be released, this phablet phone will live on in the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

However, this design is different from other rendered images we have seen so far. If you haven't been keeping up with the rumors, there have already been two previous concepts of what the Galaxy S22 Ultra's rear camera will look like. The first was a "P" shaped block design, a blend of the familiar inline and rectangular camera block seen on many recent smartphones.

Then there was the "11" design, which split the camera into two parallel lines. Today, this design has no block at all, and the lens sits flush with the back of the phone.

This design is a fairly unique look in Android smartphones, which tend to use rectangular or oblong camera blocks to accommodate the rear sensor. It should also be a more symmetrical device, which means that it won't shake annoyingly when tapped when placed flat and may feel lighter due to the lack of extra material on top of the camera. If Samsung places the weight of the internal components correctly, it could feel perfectly balanced in the hand.

Samsung has already experimented with such a design in less expensive handsets; the Galaxy A32 closely resembles this new camera-bumpless concept, but likely uses a smaller and less advanced camera than the camera on the Galaxy S22 series. Making this work with a flagship-grade sensor and up to two telephoto lenses (as rumored) would be a far greater feat of engineering, but if this leaked design is genuine, there is no doubt that Samsung is capable of managing it.

As far as we know, the LG Velvet is the only flagship with such a rear camera arrangement. In last year's review, we commented on how unique the design was compared to the camera block design, and how the lack of a protruding camera gave the phone an overall sleek look; the Velvet's quality did not stop LG from quitting the phone game altogether, though cannot deny that the phone is a handsome slab of glass.

Proven leaker FrontTron responded positively to the concept, giving it additional credibility. Veteran leaker Ice Universe also tweeted that the "P" and "11" designs previously promoted by the leakers (including themselves) were not accurate, and responded to LGD's post with "100% . They then followed up with another post suggesting that the new design was meant to save added weight by adding a built-in S Pen stylus.

Also part of the Super Roader leak is the color of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. He mentions Burgundy Red, White, and Black as the colorways that Samsung will likely offer.

The phone's name seems to have been confirmed as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Some have suspected that Samsung will market this phone as a Galaxy Note model, as it has been suggested that an S Pen will be included.

Like the current Galaxy S21 Ultra, the S22 Ultra will feature a 6.8-inch display, a 108MP main camera with a 12MP ultrawide, 3x telephoto, 10x telephoto sensor, and laser autofocus on the back and a 40MP selfie camera on the It is expected to be mounted on the front. The Ultra model is expected to have a high-capacity 5,000 mAh battery, capable of charging up to 45W or 65W, although the 25W charge may disappoint again.

The S22 series as a whole could use the new Exynos 2200 chipset with AMD graphics, or the Snapdragon 895 in certain countries. The three expected models Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Pro, and Galaxy S22 Ultra all appear to have leaked schematics and exact dimensions, but the S22 Ultra should definitely be the standout model.

Update: New leaked information on the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus reveals all about the camera.
