Upcoming DC movies: Batman, Aquaman 2, Flash, Black Adam and more

[The list of DC movies featuring Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman is long and filled with interesting titles. A new cape crusader played by Robert Pattinson defends Gotham City in "Batman," and the next "Man of Steel" goes black. And in "Wonder Woman 3," Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins reunite for a lasso adventure.

Upcoming DC films will include the introduction of new superheroes like Black Adam. Also in development are a number of projects centered around Batgirl, Zatanna, and Nightwing. Here's a rundown of all the upcoming DC movies, including those still in the early stages of development

Batman (March 4, 2022) Robert Pattinson has taken the indie route since his Twilight days. Directed by Matt Reeves, the film has been in the works for years and was originally slated to star Ben Affleck. He stepped down and Reeves was able to find a young Dark Knight. The story is reportedly a noir thriller set in Bruce Wayne's second year as Batman, investigating a series of crimes committed by the Riddler A new trailer will be unveiled at DC Fandome 2021.

Black Adam (July 29, 2022) Dwayne Johnson looks so much like a superhero that one would think he has already played several. Instead, he embarks on his first superhero movie - as a villain. He stars as Tess-Adam, portrayed as a more modern anti-hero. The film also features the Justice Society of America, including Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Dr. Fate, Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell).

The Flash (November 4, 2022) Directed by Ezra Miller, this film has been around as long as "Batman," with directors swapping in and out of the project. But Andy Muschietti of "IT: When You See "It", It's Over" is finally taking the helm. And Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck return as their respective versions of Batman, bringing multiverse to the DC Extended Universe. The Flash will also feature Supergirl, played by Sasha Kull.

"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" (December 16, 2022) Directed by James Wan, Aquaman was the highest grossing DC film ever. All the main cast members return, including Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Om, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. Filming will begin this summer.

Shazam: Wrath of the Gods (June 2, 2023) The first film, starring Zachary Levi as the titular superhero, was such a hit that DC naturally jumped on the sequel bandwagon. A pandemic slowed things down, but the film is moving forward. The main cast, including teen actors, is returning. And they are joined by Helen Mirren as the villain Hespera and Lucy Liu as Calypso.

Blue Beetle DC's first Latino superhero film is scheduled to begin shooting in the fall of 2021 and will be directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a script by Gareth Dunnett-Alocker. Xolo MaridueƱa (Cobra Kai) has reportedly been cast as Jaime Reyes, a young Mexican-American who is tied to an alien scarab.

Batgirl. The project began when Joss Whedon wanted to produce the film. Even after he dropped out of the project, Warner Bros. did not let the project die. The studio hired Adil El Albi and Bilal Farah of "Bad Boys for Life" to direct. Leslie Grace (In the Heights) was cast as Barbara Gordon. The film is headed to HBO Max.

Untitled Superman rebootTa-Nehisi Coates will write the script and J.J. Abrams will produce. Warner Bros. is reportedly looking for a black director and a black star to play the Man of Steel.

Wonder Woman 3 Patty Jenkins returns to write and direct, with Gal Gadot reprising her role as Diana Prince. The film will be set in the present day.

Supergirl The film features Kara Zor-El/Supergirl and will star Sasha Kalu, who will appear as the character in The Flash (2022).

Zatanna. A powerful sorceress may finally be in the spotlight. Promising Young Women writer/director Emerald Fennell will pen the script, and J.J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot will produce the film.

Black Hawk. Could Steven Spielberg really direct a superhero movie? Possibly. He is producing a comic book adaptation about a team of World War I ace pilots. And he could be involved as a director.

Nightwing Chris McKay ("The LEGO Batman Movie") is set to direct from a script by Bill Dubuque. However, the project has not moved much beyond 2018.

Untitled Jared Leto Joker Movie Also in 2018, Warner Bros. revealed plans to produce a standalone Joker movie starring Leto (in addition to the one starring Joaquin Phoenix). However, it is unclear if it is actually moving forward.

Justice League Dark. The project, which revolves around a team of protagonists battling magical and supernatural forces, has been in the works since 2016. Directors Guillermo del Toro and Doug Liman have come and gone. The latest news is that J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions is developing ideas for a Justice League Dark universe, starting with a TV series for HBO Max.
