Anticipated for a 2023 launch, the Tesla Roadster 2022, when it finally goes into production, will feature the company's Plaid 3 electric motor powertrain design and promises impressive performance as a result.

Inspired by the original Tesla Roadster, which the company first launched in 2008, the supercar has a 0-60 mph time of just 1.9 seconds, a 0-100 mph time of 4.2 seconds, and a top speed in excess of 250 mph, although there is no evidence so far that it will It has an astounding performance.

The Tesla Roadster 2022 will be powered by a 200 kWh battery pack and could have a range of about 620 miles (820 km), according to the US manufacturer. This is a ridiculous range, unheard of for an electric vehicle.

Even Tesla's other vehicles, which boast industry-leading ranges, fall short. The next best options would be the three-motor Tesla Cybertruck, which promises a range of over 500 miles, and the long-range Model S, which offers 405 miles.

However, those who take advantage of the car's overwhelming performance potential are unlikely to get anything close to that. The power pack drives three electric motors (one in the front and two in the rear) that generate 10,000 Nm/7,400 lb ft of torque, enabling the car to go from zero start to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds.

Performance is slightly better than the Model S Plaid, which is not surprising given the Roadster's lower ride height and more dynamic body styling. Tesla claims that the all-wheel-drive Roadster can reach 0-100 mph in 4.2 seconds and can complete the quarter mile in just 8.8 seconds. Top speed is expected to exceed 250 mph.

The second-generation Roadster was first unveiled in 2017 and was originally expected to go into production during 2021, with similar delays as the Model 3 saloon. However, the overall look of the design has not changed much over the past three years or so.

Despite being a supercar, the Tesla Roadster's interior will seat four people. Judging from the design, however, the rear seats seem somewhat cramped at best. Especially because of the dramatically angled roofline.

However, the interior will feel a bit roomier thanks to the removable glass roof. This is located above the front seats and can be lifted up and stored in the trunk. Returning to the interior, a large touchscreen will be installed from the top of the dashboard to the center console.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk had previously hinted that a variety of trim options would be available, beyond the base model's specifications. In typical hyperbolic fashion, Musk also hinted in his colorful tweet timeline at the existence of a SpaceX package featuring "rocket thrusters," which could add a further twist to the powerful design package.

New Tesla models always feature a lot of technology, and the Tesla Roadster 2022 appears to be no exception. Aside from the rocket thrusters, the sports car will be equipped with Tesla's latest driving technology, Autopilot, a surround-sound camera that provides 360-degree visibility up to 250 meters away, and ultrasonic sensors.

Twelve of these sensors can detect hard and soft objects, and the forward-facing radar can continue to function under a variety of adverse conditions. This includes heavy rain, fog, and dust.

Tesla's Roadster will also likely employ wireless software updates to dynamically update performance, autonomous driving features, and numerous safety systems. This is as expected from the manufacturer.

It's been a long time coming, but the second-generation Tesla Roadster is on its way from the company's U.S. headquarters in California.

Good things take time, and given that this car was developed from scratch, unlike the original Tesla Roadster, which was based on a Lotus chassis, it is not surprising that development has continued to lag. But while the headline-grabbing power and performance figures are impressive, they are currently just that: figures. Time will tell if this car lives up to the hype.
