Apple 'Unleashed' Event Set for 10/18 - How to Watch and What to Expect

Apple is not done with product events this year. The company just announced that it will hold an Apple event this Monday, October 18, where it is likely that new Macs with Apple's own processors will be introduced.

The Apple event, titled "Unleashed," will take place via virtual broadcast at 1:00 PM ET (10:00 AM GMT).

The "Unleashed" event comes a little over a month after Apple's last product announcement, when the company unveiled the iPhone 13, an updated iPad mini and iPad, and the Apple Watch 7. With these product announcements out of the way, it is the MacBook lineup that is most in need of an update before the holiday sales season.

Apple's event can be viewed on Apple's website Apple.com and on YouTube, which also has a preview page that will turn into a live stream of the event come Monday.

Rumors are circulating that Apple is preparing new 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. These would run on Apple's new M1X processor, a new version of the chip Apple first announced last year.

The M1X appears to be an enhanced version of the M1 chip that Apple has been using in other Macs. This version is expected to have more Thunderbolt channels and CPU and GPU cores. The next generation version of this chip, the M2, will not appear until next year.

The new MacBook will not just have a new processor; Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the MacBook Pro that Apple will unveil on Monday will be the company's first major refresh in five years, with a new design and updated display. The MacBook Pro will be Apple's first major redesign in five years.

Additionally, a rumored product that did not appear in September may also make an appearance this time around. It is the Apple AirPod 3, a new version of the wireless earbuds with added features such as Dolby Atmos support and spatial audio.

The timing of Apple's Monday event is certainly interesting. It's the day before Google holds its own event, although the Pixel Fall Launch event scheduled for Tuesday, October 19 is expected to focus primarily on Google's phones.
