Historically, the Tesla Model 3 was the "cheap" Tesla car, but you may be surprised to hear that is no longer the case. The cheapest car in Tesla's current repertoire is actually the Tesla Cybertruck. Yes, really.

Thanks to Tesla's latest price hike, the cheapest Model 3 is now priced from $39,990 to $41,990 before financial incentives. Meanwhile, the cheapest Cybertruck is still $39,900. Unfortunately, this model will not be in stock for some time.

Tesla has repeatedly raised its prices this year, with the standard range Model 3 rising a whopping $4,000 from $37,990 in early 2021. Cybertruck pricing has remained completely unchanged, so much so that the single-motor models are now well ahead of Tesla's lowest prices.

Naturally, this model is not the best cyber truck Tesla offers. It has a range of only about 250 miles, a towing capacity of 7,500 pounds, and a 0-60 speed of only 6.5 seconds. With only one motor, the drive system is also rear-wheel only.

The flagship Cybertruck, on the other hand, has three motors, a range of over 500 miles, towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, and a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds. The price, however, is up $30,000 to $69,990.

The Cybertruck may be more than $2,000 cheaper than the Model 3, but it is probably not the best option if you want to switch to a Tesla right away. Due to recent delays, the Cybertruck will not arrive in late 2021 as originally planned, and it is unclear when the first units will go into production next year.

According to Tesla, the cybertrucks will be manufactured at the Gigafactory in Texas, but work will not begin until after the Model Y is in production. According to reports, Tesla claims that full production will begin by the end of this year, but that has not yet begun.

The single-motor Cybertruck was always slated to come after the triple- and dual-motor models, with an initial delivery date estimate of late 2022. Even if Tesla could keep that window, which seems unlikely, it would mean that we would not be able to get an inexpensive cybertruck for at least another year.

The Standard Range Plus Model 3 currently has a US delivery date of April 2022. Therefore, even under the best-case scenario, one would get the Model 3 several months earlier than the Cybertruck.

The choice between the two comes down to knowing exactly what you need and when. Cybertrucks will be useful for just about everything you would use a truck for, and will stand out from any other vehicle on the road, electric or otherwise.

The Model 3 is more like a luxury sedan. It is like a Mercedes or BMW saloon, built to provide a smooth and comfortable ride on the move. It has plenty of storage space, but that is not its purpose.

But is it worth the extra $2,000 and faster delivery? That's for you to decide.
