The iPad mini2021 may have issues that deserve a "recall

The iPad mini 6 has been on the market for less than two weeks and is already suffering from another display problem. After previous "jelly scroll" issues were noted, some owners are experiencing discoloration and distortion on the tablet's LCD panel.

These issues have been detected by several 6th generation iPad owners on Reddit. Users have noticed white spots of discoloration appear when pressing hard on the tablet's 8.3-inch Liquid Retina LCD display. These issues are reported to be more pronounced when the device is set to dark mode and in portrait orientation.

Reddit user Aromatic-Coat5459 captured footage of the issue, and for those planning to purchase an iPad mini 6 this winter, it is not a pretty display. They also noted that the problem appears to be happening "in three spots along the top of the display" when the tablet is held vertically.

The same user also claimed to have visited a local Apple store and been told by an employee that they should "keep [an] eye out for a recall" as "it would not be surprising if there was a recall." Of course, this is all speculation, and should certainly not be taken as confirmation that Apple is planning such dramatic measures as a recall to rectify the problem.

Thankfully, this does not appear to be a widespread problem. We did not notice this when we reviewed the iPad mini 6, and while some owners on Reddit claim to have reproduced this issue, several have stated that it is not something they have experienced while using the device.

Unfortunately, this is not the only problem already noted with the iPad mini 6's LCD display. After a flurry of complaints about "jelly scrolling," in which each side of the display scrolls at a different speed, creating a wiggly effect, Apple was forced to address the issue. Apple claimed that "jelly scrolling" was "not necessarily uncommon on Liquid Retina displays."

It is currently unclear whether Apple will address this latest display issue. However, a common theme has emerged in these display issues. Therefore, if you already own an iPad mini 6, you may want to lock it in landscape orientation until we hear more from Apple.
