Polar's new Grit X watch looks to be powered by Garmin Fenix

Today Polar announced two new additions to its Grit X series of adventure watches, the Polar Grit X Pro and Polar Grit X Pro Titan. These two watches are designed for multi-sport adventures and are likely to be competitors in this field, which until now has been dominated by the Garmin Phoenix series. Here's what you need to know about this new adventure watch:

The Polar Grit X Pro is a premium outdoor multisport watch; the Grit X Pro looks very similar to the Grit X, with a sapphire glass lens and some additional navigation features.

What has changed?

Compared to the Grit X, the Grit X Pro has an updated glass lens, now made of scratch-resistant sapphire. It also has several new navigation features including a new route and elevation profile on the clock, a barometric-based altimeter, position coordinates, sunrise, sunset, and twilight times, new navigation and daylight dashboards including a compass.

Except for this, the specs are similar to those found on the Grit X:

The Grit X Pro will be available on Tuesday, October 6, for $499.90. It is available in Nordic Copper, Black DLC, and Arctic Gold.

Polar also introduced the Grit X Pro Titan, which offers the same features as the Grit X Pro but is 12% lighter. Designed for heavy-duty adventures where wrist weight really matters, the Grit X Pro Titan features an aerospace titanium bezel.

The Grit X Pro Titan will be available on Tuesday, October 6, for $599.95. It is only available in black, but is available with two different wristbands: a waterproof FKM (carbon-based synthetic material) and a leather strap.

I have not yet tested this watch, but at first glance, Polar appears to have taken some features from Garmin's Fenix 6 series, but at a much cheaper price point. While the Fenix 6 Sapphire costs $749.99, the Grit X Pro is $250 cheaper.

Nevertheless, when comparing the Grit X to the Garmin Fenix 6 series, Polar's main drawback is the lack of navigation tools on the watch; Garmin has its own mapping feature and connects to third-party apps like Strava and Kamoot To use the Grit X's navigation tools, you need to sign up for a Kamoot membership. The same applies to the Grit X Pro and Grit X Pro Titan, which is a bit of a hassle if the watch's purpose is to take you on grueling adventures.
