iPad Air5: Everything You Know so Far

The rumored iPad Air5 may not arrive until early 2022, but the new tablet is rumored to get a sufficient amount of upgrades, and wait

The current iPad Air (2020) features a fast A14Bionic processor, a bright and colorful 10.9-inch display, USB-C charging, and Magic. It is one of the best tablets, with support for both Keyboard and 1st generation Apple Pencil. The only thing we didn't like in our review was the expensive accessories and lack of face ID support.

However, despite the launch of the latest iPad Pro2021 model, the iPad Air2020 is still great, thanks to more affordable prices, impressive specifications, fun and colorful design

So Cupertino can bring to the table to upgrade the already powerful device . The OLED display can be tapped, similar to the faster A13 bionic chip currently featured in the newly introduced iPhone15 lineup. We've rounded up everything out there to find out about the potential iPad Air5 so far, including the latest rumors, specs, potential release dates, and more.

There is no official confirmation from Apple, but multiple sources point to the 2022 iPad Air5 release date. The iPad Air4 was launched in 2021-10, but we don't expect the iPad Air5 to be launched this year.

Even more interesting is that Apple reportedly plans to unveil a new OLED-powered iPad Air ahead of the next iPad Pro model. Perhaps Cupertino has more sleeves for its Pro OLED tablets, which need more time to produce and announce them.

Sadly, at this stage, there is no narrower window for a potential release date, except for the fact that it could happen sometime next year. However, if the iPad Air5 actually arrives before the next Pro model, there could be an opportunity for an announcement at Apple's next annual Spring event.

Several reports have already been discovered about the possibility that the iPad Air5 will get an OLED display. This will be a big step forward for Apple as the IPAD Air could be the first tablet with OLED panels.

While the iPad Air's current Liquid Retina LCD panel is excellent, the OLED screen offers richer colors, wider viewing angles and perfect black. So it will be a major upgrade to edit photos and videos and watch the latest Ted Lasso episodes.

It's worth noting that in a recent report from Elec, the 10.68-inch iPad model (likely to be the next potential iPad Air) claims to be able to pack a rigid OLED display as opposed to the flexible glass Apple has implemented on the device since 2017. According to the report, the remaining iPad models following the 10.68-inch tablet will use flexible glass instead.

However, one of the latest reports from Elec 1 shows that the OLED panel may be off the table as Apple has decided to ditch plans to work with Samsung Display on its next OLED display for iPad Air. "We have decided not to use OLED panels for iPad Air because cost and performance do not meet the company's expectations," said Ming-Chi Kuo, a trusted Apple analyst.

Analysts pointed out that the next iPad air might get an LCD display instead.

It's too early to say whether a potential iPad Air5 will actually acquire OLED panels, but the possibility that Apple will decide to retain its current display after all, the company has made a transition to mini LEDs for the high-end iPad Pro. So you might think that the pros will go to OLED first.

With the exception of the rumored OLED display, there is little known about the remaining specifications of the potential iPad Air5. However, 1 report claims that the iPad Air5 can get features like the iPad Pro, such as the upgraded dual camera system. The 5th generation iPad Air is also rumored to get a15Bionic chip, which will reportedly be revealed along with the iPhone9 lineup during Apple's May 13 event.

Macotakara's report also speculates about the possibility of 5G connectivity and the built-in LiDAR scanner, but the latter is not guaranteed.

The potential iPad Air5 may also include the 2021 speaker audio system currently on the existing iPad Pro 4 models.

Apart from the above, however, sources say that most of its predecessor's features, notably the 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display and Touch ID on the tablet's side buttons, will be retained.Interestingly, the report contradicts previous rumors about the possible OLED-powered iPad Air.
