The Pixel Fold concept draws large to pixel 6 for inspiration

Many of those following the various cell phone rumors believe that when the Google Pixel 6 debuts later this month, the Pixel Fold will be along for the ride. while we can't say for sure if Google's foldable phone is really close to launch, at least we have some ideals of what it might look like. We have a few ideals of what it might possibly look like.

That Pixel Fold design comes from a concept video created by designer Waqar Khan and posted via Let's Go Digital. The 3D rendering appears to be based on rumors surrounding the foldable and Google's acquired patent for a foldable phone with a hinge design.

Essentially, Khan's take on the Pixel Fold looks like a case of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Pixel 6 falling in love and having offspring. Like Samsung's foldable, this concept-designed Google phone has a cover display on the outside and a tablet-sized screen inside when the phone is unfolded; unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 3, neither screen features a punch-hole camera cutout.

Both screens feature a punch-hole camera cutout.

We note that this Pixel Fold concept does not solve one of the biggest problems we had with the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Phones that open and close on a hinge tend to be quite bulky when folded, which can make them difficult to carry. If this design is adopted, it will be up to Google to figure out how to make the Pixel Fold more portable.

As for the Pixel 6's impact, the back mimics the new look that Google has already shown off on its upcoming flagship. Namely, the camera lens extending horizontally across the back of the device. Kahn's design will also appear in colors that Google has already teased as part of the Pixel 6 lineup.

Both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will debut this month and should feature a Google-designed processor and various camera improvements. Rumor has it that these flagship phones will launch on October 19.

However, in recent weeks there has been a growing chorus of rumors claiming that the Pixel Fold will also debut this year, possibly alongside the Pixel 6. The Fold would feature the same Tensor processor that Google is developing for its other phones.

But little else is known about the Pixel Fold. And the lack of more specific details may suggest that the launch is not as close as rumors suggest. After all, the Pixel 6 is likely to appear in a few weeks, and most of the details about that phone have already leaked out.

It is possible that Google will show a glimpse of the Pixel Fold by the end of this month, and then delay the official launch until later. If that happens, it will be interesting to see how far the design in this concept video matches the reality of the Pixel Fold.
