Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Case Rendering Backup Note-like appearance

Rendered images of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra were released last week, teasing a bold new look for the phone, as opposed to the conservative design changes expected in the regular and Plus models. This was everything but the Samsung Galaxy Note 22 name, and appeared to be a more Note 20 Ultra-style design.

Now, trusty leaker IceUniverse has backed all of this up with renderings of an alleged case that appears to match the phone's, down to the cutouts for both the S Pen dock and the distinctive P-shaped camera array.

Like the previous OnLeak renderings, IceUniverse's renderings (which may or may not be accurate) have far more in common with the curved appearance of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra than the Galaxy S21.

However, the odd camera array may actually be a cutout of the S21 Ultra bump, with a similar lens layout on a more rectangular frame:

The other two S22 handsets reportedly look almost identical to this year's model The big question is whether these are actually from the same family, as it has been reported. Will Samsung revive the Note brand and retire the "S Ultra"?

This is the view of leaker chunvn8888 on Twitter, who writes that the Samsung Galaxy S22 will actually be joined by the S22 Pro and Note 22 Ultra.

In a follow-up tweet, the leaker claimed that this possibility was only recently discussed, adding that the decision is not set in stone.

Still, it certainly makes sense; the Note has a loyal fan base, and there is no denying that Samsung felt it was excessive to offer three Galaxy S, two Galaxy Note, and two foldable.

Combining the S and Note devices into one product would make Samsung's flagship line feel a bit more crowded and, potentially, a bit less confusing. However, unless Samsung has another Note Lite in the works, S Pen fans on a limited budget will be out of luck.

But whatever it ends up being called, it seems that Note fans who lobbied Samsung in a seemingly desperate petition to bring back the phone may get what they wanted after all. And the possibility of an announcement by the end of the year may be sooner than even the most optimistic Note fans would have hoped.
