YouTube TV may lose its must-see TV on the eve of a big weekend in a dispute with NBCUniversal Both YouTube TV and NBCUniversal have reached an agreement to include several NBCUniversal channels on YouTube's subscription streaming service, but have not reached an agreement to include them. The outlook is so bleak that YouTube is preparing a proposal to keep subscribers coming. [This weekend, NBC will host Sunday Night Football's big game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots, with Tom Brady facing his former team, and "Saturday Night Live" season premiere. The following week, Kim Kardashian West, Rami Malek, and Jason Sudeikis (Ted Russo himself) will host.

And it's not just NBC that will be gone: Bravo, E!, Telemundo, USA, SyFy, Oxygen, CNBC, MSNBC, Universo, The Golf Channel, Universal Kids and NBC Sports Network are all could disappear; maybe more, since NBCU claims "more than 14 popular channels" will be gone. We like YouTube TV as one of the best cable TV alternatives, but this could be very annoying for everyone involved.

As a way to make up with subscribers, YouTube TV announced that if NBC's channel is removed from the service, it will "lower the monthly fee by $10 from $64.99 to $54.99. If the two sides make up before then, the price will not be lowered.

According to Variety, NBCU is demanding a higher channel fee than Google is willing to pay; in a statement to the magazine, NBCU claims it is "demanding a fair rate."

Google also claims that NBCU wants to bundle its Peacock streaming service with YouTube TV, but Variety notes that it also needs its own app to stream that content.

YouTube TV's contract with NBCU is set to expire on Thursday, September 30, but neither has disclosed a specific date when the channels will depart; Cnet claims that the contract will end "Thursday at 9 p.m. PT/Friday at midnight ET," which is the West Coast's LAW & ORDER Thursday in the middle of its broadcast, meaning that the network may go dark after Special Victims Unit and before Organized Crime.

Frankly, we don't know if the discounted rates YouTube is offering will be enough to make up for what will be lost. Sure, the $10 saved is twice the cost of Peacock (which can fill the gap for live Sunday Night Football) at $4.99/month, but if you want to watch "Law and Order," "SNL," and other NBCU shows live on Peacock You won't want to wait until the next day for those shows to be uploaded.

Cord-cutting services give customers the authority to cancel the service because the monthly subscription does not require them to stick with the service if the programs they want are not available. And NBCU channels are virtually everywhere. We know because we've written articles about which services have the most popular channels. If you're so inclined, you can go to Sling TV, Hulu with Live TV, or fuboTV.

Why take the extra $10 when we could just cancel our YouTube TV account or put it on hold until this issue is resolved?

This is not YouTube TV's only major platform issue. Currently, you cannot download the YouTube TV app on Roku TV, because due to a dispute between Roku and YouTube TV, the YouTube TV app has been removed from the Roku TV store. New subscribers, or those moving to a new Roku, will need to find the YouTube TV section in the YouTube app to get Live TV. And this dispute has been ongoing since May.
