The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are likely to be the most AI-oriented phones Google has ever produced. These could range from improved language translation to dramatically improved computational photography.

On Twitter, Rich Blohm posted a shot of what appears to be an advertisement for the September 27 issue of The New Yorker, asking a series of questions that suggest the types of features the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro might include.

"What if smartphones weren't just smart?" and escalated to "What if smartphones weren't just smart?" and escalating to "What if smartphones were just smart? And then escalates it to ask if the phone could be more "intuitive," "perceptive," and "personal." The ad clearly suggests that the Pixel 6 will lean heavily on the AI-centric Tensor chip to deliver smarter and more personalized features. This is to be expected given Google's previous statements, but other questions suggest that the Pixel 6 will have more specific features

Given that many smartphones, including Google's previous Pixel phones, already offer automatic options and AI features, the Pixel 6 will have to offer something a bit special here to stand out from the crowd. Hardware-wise, while the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have dramatic rear camera bars, their overall design is fairly standard for current Android smartphones. The former is said to offer a 6.4-inch 90Hz 1080p display with a punch-hole camera, while the latter offers a 120Hz 6.71-inch display with QHD resolution.

But Google has long proven capable of delivering impressive features thanks to its smart software. And with AI-focused custom silicon at the heart of the Pixel 6, it appears to have the hardware and software to make the smartphone really smart.

With the full reveal of the new Pixel phone expected in October, it won't be too long before we see if Google can produce a phone that can challenge the iPhone 13 Pro and Samsung's Galaxy S21 Ultra.
