IKEA Symfonisk Smart lamp speaker just got better — here's how

IKEA and Sonos have teamed up for a new version of the Symfonisk smart table lamp/speaker.

This latest collaboration between the home furnishing giant and the streaming specialist is an upgraded version of the original Symfonisk, launched in 2019. Designed to offer all-in-one smart lamp and speaker utility, this discreet table lamp speaker measures just 16 x 8.5 inches, making it an ideal space saver.

So how does the new model compare to the original IKEA Symphonisque table lamp?

The main difference is its sleek design, which now allows the lampshade to be interchangeable to match the interior. This is certainly an improvement over the original bulbous mushroom shape. Both shades are available in black or white and are sold separately from the base.

Another notable design improvement is the elimination of the circular control base on top of the lamp. Instead, the control panel is built into the lamp itself, creating a more streamlined and aesthetically pleasing design. Unlike the previous Symphonisk, the new lamps have an additional E26/27 socket, making them compatible with a wider range of bulbs.

The new Symfonisk also promises enhanced "acoustic" surround sound quality and a wider range of streaming options via the Sonos app. In addition, it can be paired with other Sonos speakers and other speakers in the Symfonisk series, which is useful if you want to build a multi-room audio system for watching movies.

Like the look? The new Symfonisk table lamps will be available at IKEA starting October 12: $140 for the speaker lamp base with Wi-Fi, $39 for the glass shade, and $29 for the textile shade. We plan to try it out soon, so stay tuned for more evaluations of it.
