Samsung Galaxy S21FE May Be Canceled — here's why

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE may be discontinued due to ongoing global chip shortage.

According to South Korea's Digital Daily, the lower-priced model in the Samsung Galaxy S21 series may have been canceled to ensure that Samsung has what it needs to maintain production of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 foldable phone.

Digital Daily quotes an anonymous Samsung executive claiming that the Galaxy S21 FE online Unpacked event has been canceled. Originally scheduled for mid-October, Samsung is said to be "reviewing the smartphone launch itself." In other words, it appears that the Galaxy S21 FE may not appear at all.

According to the report, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is selling so well that Samsung's production is not keeping up with demand. Also, rumors of the Galaxy S21 FE are that it will feature many of the same high-end components as the Galaxy S21, which explains why Samsung may be having trouble getting all the components together to produce both.

The global chip shortage has been going on for some time now. As a result, production of everything from next-generation game consoles to automobiles has been affected.

As a result, Microsoft and Sony have decided to increase production to meet the demand for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Now it looks like the Galaxy S21 FE may be its latest victim.

Samsung has neither confirmed nor denied the existence or cancellation of the Galaxy S21 FE, telling Digital Daily that "it is difficult to confirm the product before launch." So unfortunately we can only wait and see what the next few weeks bring and what it means for the Galaxy S21 FE's chances.

If this phone does eventually launch, we can expect something similar to the Galaxy S21, but with some compromises to keep the price down. Rumor has it that the design will be almost identical and will run on the same Snapdragon 888 chip as the regular Galaxy S21.

Other leaked information claims that the S21 FE phone will have a full HD display, 6GB of RAM, a 32MP front camera, a 32MP main lens, a 12MP ultra-wide and an 8MP telephoto triple lens rear camera. We will report further information as it becomes available.
