Reservations for the iPad are now officially open. However, the new iPad 9 and iPad mini 6 will officially hit retailers on September 24, and reservations will close. Both tablets feature faster Apple processors and better cameras, but maintain the same starting price as their predecessors.

The new iPad starts at $329 and the new iPad mini at $499. However, we have already spotted some early iPad deals on both tablets.

The biggest update to the iPad 9 is a new A13 Bionic CPU and larger storage capacity. According to Apple, this CPU offers a 20% performance boost. This is the same CPU found in the iPhone 11.

Meanwhile, the base model offers 64GB of storage, while the step-up model includes 256GB. In both cases, you get twice as much storage as the previous model. Apple also upgraded the front camera to 12 MP (from 1.2 MP) and added support for Center Stage, which uses machine learning to adjust the front camera during FaceTime video calls.

Both Amazon and Best Buy are taking pre-orders for the new iPad. However, Best Buy offers a discount of up to $400 if you trade in your old tablet. For example, an old iPad 7 will give you a $160 credit, which you can use toward the purchase of a new iPad.

The 2021 iPad mini received the biggest upgrade. In addition to a new edge-to-edge screen, it has a larger 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2266 x 1488. (The older iPad mini had a 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 display.) The new tablet also features the current generation A15 Bionic CPU, the same processor as the new iPhone 13. According to Apple, this new CPU should provide a 40% performance boost over the previous iPad mini.

Both Amazon and Best Buy are taking reservations for the iPad mini. However, Best Buy offers a discount of up to $400 if you trade in your old tablet. For example, for an older iPad mini, a $175 credit can be applied toward the purchase of a new iPad.
