Samsung Galaxy Note 22 rumors were just killed — but there is good news

It looks like another nail has been hammered into the coffin of the Samsung Galaxy Note. Noted leaker Ice Universe says, "The Note is done, but it's not over, the S will be the Note!"

Ice Universe insists that.

If Ice Universe's claim is correct, it would mean that Galaxy Note features will be integrated into the Galaxy S series, just as the S Pen was supported on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. And that is a positive move.

Why? I like the Note, but feel that the Ultra version of the Galaxy S series makes the Note irrelevant. Also, in terms of ease of choice, I would rather Samsung release one phone a year that has everything, rather than two phones with minor differences.

For the past few months, Samsung's Galaxy Note line has looked dead by all accounts. But yet again, a series of rumors from the Ice Universe recently seemed to give it the kiss of life. The first one was that someone had seen "evidence of the existence of the next generation Galaxy Note," and the second one was that someone had seen a frame for the Note 22.

I took these earlier rumors with a massive drop of skeptical salt because I saw no reason to revive the Note phone now that Samsung has a foldable device flying the Galaxy flagship flag.

I basically already wrote about how sad the death of the Galaxy Note is, but I hope Samsung really finds some way to keep the DNA of the phone with its stylus in future Galaxy phones. There is no reason why Samsung's Galaxy S22 Ultra could not have an S Pen compartment.

However, Samsung has not closed the door tightly on the Galaxy Note line, but has made it clear that we will not be getting a Note phone this year because it is concentrating on folding phones, and it appears to be doing so for the time being.

Now, I have concerns about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. But it remains a cool technology nonetheless. So it's understandable that Samsung would rather focus on developing a foldable phone than work on a design that is effectively a Galaxy S series phone, but with extra stuff added and a beautifully boxy shape.

If a future Samsung foldable phone can slim down the handset a bit and integrate an S-pen holder into the chassis, I think some Note fans will wipe the tears of sadness from their eyes and furtively look at such a foldable device. After all, the Note's display, while impressive, cannot offer the vast screen of a foldable phone.

That said, I wouldn't bet big on the Note not making a comeback. But time will tell. And in the meantime, there are Android phones, like the Google Pixel 6, that I am particularly excited about.
