The earliest rumors of the iPhone 14 point to a handset that will have a distinctly different appearance from the just-announced iPhone 13, but at least one aspect seems likely to remain consistent with the 2021 device.

Korean website The Elec claims that Apple plans to use low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) panels in "at least one of the four models" of the iPhone 14 scheduled for next year. This is in contrast to the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) panels used in current Pro devices, which allow for a smooth 120 Hz "ProMotion" refresh rate.

Reading between the lines, Apple may not default to a 120Hz refresh rate for all 2022 iPhone models, and some may maintain 60Hz. In other words, there could be both Pro and regular iPhones for at least another year, which makes sense.

Along with the addition of a rear-facing camera, improved screen technology is one of the key ways Apple upsells today's expensive iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models to consumers. The marketing term for this display is ProMotion.

Apple is expected to release four iPhone 14 models next year, evenly split between Pro and non-Pro models, but it appears the company plans to shake up the form factor. The poorly performing 5.4-inch "mini" model will reportedly be discontinued after two generations, and Apple will instead reportedly offer 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch versions of both the regular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone 13 has not been out for a week yet, but this is not the first time we have heard about Apple's 2022 phone. According to Jon Prosser, an Apple leaker with a varied track record, the iPhone 14 will address two remaining design flaws in recent Apple phones, with the notch replaced by a punch hole camera and the rear camera bump absorbed into the slightly thicker body of the device

However, the device's design is not yet complete.

But it won't be the next iPhone we'll see. according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a revised version of the iPhone SE will beat out the iPhone 14 and be available in the first half of 2022. the iPhone SE 3, unlikely to win any awards for looks, as it could be similar in design to the now-discontinued iPhone XR, but if it is powered by the latest Apple A15 Bionic chip, it should rival the best smartphones in terms of performance.
