Fitbit is rolling out snoring and noise detection - here's how to enable it

Fitbit has rolled out a new snore detection feature, now available for Fitbit Versa 3 or Fitbit Sense smartwatch users and premium subscriptions.

The snore and noise detection feature, announced earlier this year, comes as an update to the sleep score feature already available on Fitbit smartwatches. Its purpose is to give Fitbit deeper sleep analysis data.

To this end, Snore & Noise Detection records sound intensity during the night and analyzes how loud or quiet the noise level in the room is. It also detects snore-specific noises, so that in the morning you can see if your snoring or your partner's snoring has disturbed you during the night.

The microphones in Sense and Versa 3 collect information about ambient noise every few seconds after the tracker determines that you are asleep Fitbit is currently the only smartwatch on the market that uses snore detection as a sleep indicator and will be available later this fall It is believed that this feature will be available in the new Fitbit Charge 5, which will be available later this fall.

To enable snoring and noise detection on Fitbit, open the Fitbit app and go to the Sleep page. On the Sleep page, you will see the "Check for snoring" option. Click "Learn More" to go to the page describing the snoring and noise detection feature.

Click Next and agree to the Privacy Policy to proceed, allowing you to record noise levels during the night. The noise detection feature can be turned off at any time in the sleep settings.

Fitbit warns users that snore detection monitoring consumes battery power and recommends that those who use this feature make sure the tracker is on at least 40% before dozing off.

Also, this feature is still in its infancy, so even if you have the correct membership and equipment, it may not yet show up in your settings.

While it remains to be seen how Fitbit's snoring feature will actually work, it is exciting to see Fitbit adding new features to their sleep tracking metrics, an early adopter of detailed sleep analysis in its products; Fitbit has also reportedly been working on sleep apnea detection for a long time, and it remains to be seen if this is the first in a series of new sleep updates.
