Apple Fitness Plus: 5 Updates I'm Excited About

Today (Sept. 14), Apple announced an update to Apple Fitness Plus, coinciding with the launch of the Apple Watch 7 and Apple iPhone 13. But what is it and what do subscribers need to know?

Apple announced that Pilates workouts will be available on the Apple Fitness Plus platform later this month. Focusing on core, strength, and flexibility, Pilates is an excellent low-impact workout that will appeal to a wide range of subscribers.

From mothers just returning to fitness to runners returning from injury, Pilates is a great workout to strengthen and tone the body. Pilates has been proven to improve posture.

As part of a new mindfulness app, guided meditations are added to the Fitness Plus platform every month. Following Fitbit's recent announcement of a partnership with meditation app Calm, Apple is looking to improve its range of meditations, a year after teaching us that fitness is about more than calorie counting and closing the ring.

The new guided meditations will also be available on the Apple Watch in weekly audio format for listening on the go.

A slightly more niche feature, but one that fans of skiing and snowboarding will love, is the winter sports workouts that Apple is adding to Fitness Plus.

According to Apple, the workouts were developed with alpine ski racer Ted Ligety, and whether you are a skier or snowboarder, they will help you get ready for the snow season.

Those who have been separated from friends and workout buddies over the past year will be able to work out together with Apple Fitness+ starting this fall, Apple announced.

Using an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV via Air Play, you will be able to connect with up to 32 people to watch them work out and celebrate with them when they close the ring. It's a fun update for subscribers.

The big drawback for some users is the limited availability of Apple Fitness Plus. Apple announced later this month that Apple Fitness+ will be available in 15 more countries and will have subtitles in six languages.

This is a good step toward a more inclusive platform, although I would prefer to have audio narration in the corresponding language rather than subtitles, especially when trying to work out.
