iPhone14 put the chip to get this big missing iPhone13 feature

Even though the iPhone 13 is not yet in hand, the iPhone 14 is the talk of the town right now. After a recent major leak, other experts have weighed in on the claims.

Ross Young, mobile display expert and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, recently made comments on Twitter supporting the claim that one of the biggest changes in the iPhone 14 is Face ID under the display. He also said that all iPhone 14 models will come with Face ID. However, he also noted that not all models will have it and it is not yet clear if this feature will be included.

The initial claim of Face ID under the display stems from a major leak of next year's iPhone by Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech. There are other interesting details, including a new flat back, titanium side rails, and redesigned buttons, but the almost complete removal of the notch is rumored to be the most obvious change.

The problem, however, is that this radical shift is apparently not yet finalized. As Young stated in a tweet, "I can tell you Face ID under the panel is not final yet. Still a work in progress."

Fortunately, in a follow-up tweet, Young said that making Face ID work from under the screen is easier than making the camera under the display work; Face ID only needs to recognize faces, so the loss of image quality due to the screen being in the way should not be an issue. The image quality loss due to the screen being in the way should not be an issue.

Furthermore, Young's current table of iPhone 14 features, based on DSCC analysis, indicates that only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models will have this technology. iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will not have this benefit, Instead, they will have either regular Face ID or the reintroduced Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

However, the iPhone 14 is more than a year away, so despite the confidence of some of these claims, it is possible that Apple will change things before the final iPhone of 2022 is confirmed.

In the meantime, the iPhone 13 is on the horizon and will probably be announced at Apple's September 14 event. This iPhone lineup is also said to change the Face ID notch, and the top speaker will be moved to reduce the overall cutout of the display, giving extra space for watching videos and playing games on the same size phone.
