iPhone13leaker Tipped the biggest Upgrade Ahead of Apple Event

The iPhone 13 launch is less than a week away, but that doesn't mean iPhone rumors are drying up ahead of the Apple event. A prominent leaker revealed more possible details about Apple's upcoming phone's camera, and it sounds as if improved software features are a major focus for the new iPhone.

The informant also claims to have details on how the 120Hz display will work, a larger battery, and pricing.

The emphasis on camera capabilities certainly makes sense. Apple remains the trusted manufacturer of the best camera phones, but it's not just Apple. Google and Samsung are also putting considerable emphasis on cameras, and OnePlus is stepping up its photography game as well. if the iPhone 13 is to remain a top class camera like the iPhone 12, Apple has its work cut out for it.

According to the latest report from Max Weinbach via his PineLeaks Twitter account, "all sensors now receive at least 15% more light." We believe that means the sensors in the cameras of all four expected iPhone 13 models, although it is possible that it refers only to the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

According to this tweet, the iPhone 13's ultra-wide angle lens is said to capture 40% more light. For reference, we are told that the improved ultra-wide angle lens is a feature of the iPhone 13 Pro only.

The more light the camera captures, the better quality images can be expected, especially in low light situations. We speculate that the ability to capture more light is part of Apple's effort to improve the iPhone's ability to produce in the dark.

To that end, Weinbach also tweeted that the improved night mode recognizes when stars are in the scene and makes the necessary adjustments to capture the night sky. Additionally, Apple is said to be adding a new algorithm that can adjust shadows in nighttime shots. Improved color scenes in night mode photos will also be part of the iPhone 13 improvements.

One of the previously rumored iPhone 13 camera features was support for portrait mode when shooting video. Weinbach calls the feature "Cinematic Video" and states that it "attempts to bring the subject closer to the center of the frame while also trying to make it look less unnatural." Cinematic Video will also reportedly include additional effects.

These camera features constitute the most interesting part of Weinbach's iPhone 13 tweetstorm, but they are not the only features being discussed. We also got an amplification of earlier rumors that the iPhone 13 lineup will feature a larger battery - 10% larger in the case of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro with the same size power pack. iPhone 13 Pro Max's battery is 18% to 20% larger but the power demands of the 120 Hz refresh rate may result in shorter battery life for this 6.7" model.

For users who purchase the iPhone 13 mini, the good news in terms of battery life is that Weinbach claims the new mini's battery life will be about an hour better than the iPhone 12 mini. This is good news since short battery life has been the biggest drawback of the compact iPhone.

These larger batteries may be behind another claim in the iPhone 13 tweet, namely that it will be heavier and thicker than the iPhone 12 lineup.

Finally, Weinbach does not expect a price change for the iPhone 13. This is good news in the face of recent rumors that a chip shortage will drive up the cost of components and may force Apple to increase prices over the iPhone 12 lineup.

We won't have to wait long to see how accurate this series of tweets' claims actually are. Apple's September 14 product event will begin next Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. Bookmark the iPhone 13 hub for the latest iPhone 13 news and leaks as the launch approaches.
