Danilovic, ranked 145th in the world, had never played against Osaka. She just beat Alicia Parks (ranked 246th) 6-3, 7-5 in round 1. It is hard to bet against Osaka in this matchup.

If Osaka showed any signs of trouble, it would be that her first serve percentage was only 47%. This may have just been a rusty serve that ran out of steam as everything improved during the match.

If Osaka commits more unforced errors (13 in the first set), it could be a different story on Thursday.

As for the rest of the U.S. Open, the biggest threat to Osaka is Ashleigh Barty, whose first-round opponent is Russian Vera Zvonareva.
