Google's Pixel phones have never been speed demons when it comes to charging. However, if leaked information about one of the accessories for the upcoming Pixel 6 is to be believed, charging speeds could be improved.

The leaked details come from Android Police, which tipped us off to the existence of a revised version of the Pixel Stand wireless charging accessory Rumors about a new Pixel Stand in conjunction with the Pixel 6 circulated over the summer, but this report provides more specific details

Specifically, the report states.

Specifically, according to Android Police's retail sources, one major U.S. carrier has begun entering information about the accessory ahead of the Pixel 6's likely release this fall. One of them mentions "Google Pixel 23W WL Stand" and even has a screenshot to back it up.

The new Pixel stand reportedly comes with a fan to help cool the Pixel 6 while charging it at high speed.

The original Pixel Stand was best at 10W charging, so 23W is a big step forward, if not the fastest wireless charging; the OnePlus 9 Pro supports 50W wireless charging and can achieve that blazing speed with the optional stand.

Still, if Android Police's leak is accurate, 23W wireless charging would be faster than the 15W speeds supported by Samsung's Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12. It is also an improvement over the Pixel 5's 12W wireless charging speed.

Google would have plenty of reasons to want to speed up smartphone charging. However, reportedly, Google's next flagship will have a larger battery than ever before (4,614 mAh for the Pixel 6 and 5,000 mAh for the rumored Pixel 6 Pro), so these batteries will need to charge faster.

While on the subject of charging speeds, the Pixel 5's 18W charging speed is also nothing to write home about, but the Android Police report does not say whether wired charging will get a similar boost. Previous Pixel 6 rumors had the new Google phone's charging speed at 33W, though.

In addition to the improved charging speed, the Pixel 6 is likely to be one of the most interesting Pixel phones in a while. If rumors are to be believed, the new model could arrive as early as this month. Google has already confirmed that the Pixel 6 will feature a new in-house Tensor chip that will enhance its AI capabilities. There will also be two versions of the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro, with the Pixel 6 Pro expected to have a larger screen.
