Philips Hue and Spotify are partnering to make smart lights worthy of a party

The party is on. Philips Hue is introducing a new algorithm that will allow the lights to be more in sync with the songs you play on Spotify. In addition, Signify (parent company of Philips Hue) will launch a series of new smart lights, including gradient light tubes, new filament bulbs, and ceiling lights.

We can't wait to see and try these changes for ourselves, but in the meantime, here's what you can look forward to.

The biggest news is the improved integration between Philips Hue and Spotify. While it has been possible to sync Philips Hue lights with Spotify songs for some time, the difference in this announcement is that the Hue app is now able to analyze the metadata of each song, predicting the beat and even reflecting the genre and tone of the song in the lights. Instead of just flashing lights to match the tempo, it is like drawing an illustration to match the song.

This opens up a variety of possibilities depending on your musical preferences, whether you want relaxing tones in the background after a day's work or want to party into the night. You can also personalize programs that don't suit your tastes with the new Sync tab in the Philips Hue app. You can adjust the brightness and intensity and choose your preferred colors, which Signify claims will create a uniquely immersive light and music experience.

"As the global leader in smart lighting, we are constantly looking for new ways to continue to provide Philips Hue users with a cutting-edge smart lighting experience. Entertainment, where audio is a key element, is an important focus for Philips Hue. By innovating with our industry-leading partner Spotify, we are proud to offer users an immersive integration of music and lighting in a way never before possible," said Jasper Vervoort said. [This new feature is available for free through the Philips Hue app and is available with Hue Bridge and color-enabled Philips Hue lights. It will be available to select users starting today and will take seven days to be available to all. To be the first to try it, you will need to activate Early Access, which will become a permanent part of the Hue app after October.

But what about the new series? As of today, the new range of Philips Hue smart lights is quite extensive, but here are some of the highlights (pun intended). Last year, Philips introduced the Play Gradient Lightstrip, a light strip that attaches to the back of a TV and reflects color on the wall. And now they have introduced the Play Gradient Light Tube. It can mix multiple colors of light into a single lamp, which can be installed above or below the TV, according to the company. It comes in two colors, black and white, and can be blended into interiors.

Philips Hue filament bulbs are now also available in the White ambiance, making this popular retro look more versatile by offering different tones of white light. Also added will be white filament E14 candle bulbs.

If you're a fan of the traditional Philips Hue smart bulbs, these are also literally expanding: 1100 lumens and 1600 lumens are now available for when more brightness is needed; the 1600 lumen bulb is larger than the other bulbs in this range; and the 1600 lumen bulb is larger than the others in this range.

And let's not forget ceiling lights. The new Philips Hue Surimu ceiling panels feature a very modern design and can be installed flush with the ceiling. It comes in square and rectangular designs. If you are not interested in this ceiling light, then the new Philips Hue Enrave ceiling light is a good choice. Available in black and white, it matches a variety of rooms throughout the house, from warm to cool tones. It can also be used as a pendant, making it an ideal centerpiece in the living room or over the dining table. Philips also plans to launch the Philips Hue Infuse ceiling light later this year.

New bathroom lights will also be available. The Philips Hue Xamento, a chrome-plated recessed spotlight, and the Philips Hue Devere, a ceiling light that provides indirect lighting and warm, cool light for waking up in the morning or relaxing at night. Hue Devere". The Philips Hue Xamento ceiling light will also join the lineup later this year, offering both white and colored light.

Another notable software update is Dynamic Scenes. With Dynamic Scenes, each light will not display a single color, but rather a selection of colors, making the overall ambiance more personal and full of surprises. Yet another feature, to be added to the Hue scene gallery in the fall of 2021, will allow Hue lights to naturally adjust color and tone over a 24-hour period. Thus, in the morning, the lights will work intensively in white, but gradually warm up as you relax into the evening.

For avid gamers, a software update for the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box will be added in the fall of 2021. This sync box will support the 120Hz compatibility of the latest gaming consoles and provide a higher refresh rate. The sync box will support 1080p and 1440p image resolutions, but if the highest image resolution of 4K is required, the current sync box will support a 60Hz refresh rate.
