Yes, 2021 was Djokovic's best, winning Wimbledon almost too easily and the Australian Open and French Open before that. Djokovic failed to win a single medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, losing to Alexander Zverev in the semifinals before losing to Pablo Carreno Busta in the bronze medal match.

He then withdrew from the bronze medal mixed doubles match with a shoulder injury. He then missed the Western & Southern Open, perhaps saving his energy for the US Open.

Or, more importantly, is he fully healed? Details of Djokovic's shoulder injury have not been disclosed, so we don't know if he will be able to play at 100%. That could make or break his chances at the US Open.
