There are plenty of new shows and movies to watch on various streaming services this September, with Netflix, HBO Max, Disney Plus, and others all offering up tons of must-see content over the next month.

September marks the beginning of the end of the summer movie season, but that doesn't mean there aren't still hot movies to enjoy in September. For starters, the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be released this month.

Meanwhile, the summer TV lineup is coming to an end, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Fall is often the strongest time for new programming, as networks and streaming platforms debut a plethora of fresh content. This month, "Star Wars: Visions" is coming to Disney Plus, while Netflix's comedy series "Sex Education" is back. The Marvel Cinematic Universe returns to screens this month with "Shan Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings." The film features the MCU's first Asian protagonist, Shang-Chi, played by Sim Liu.

In this film, the protagonist is forced to confront his past when a mysterious organization, the Ten Rings, emerges from the shadows. Unlike "Black Widow," this film skips Disney Plus Premiere Access and will be released exclusively on September 3.

Disney is remaking another forgotten series from its archives. This time, they are rebooting the 80s TV show Doogie Howser, M.D. The original show chronicled the adventures of a teenage doctor, and this female-led remake will feature the same basic premise. New episodes will be available weekly on Disney Plus beginning September 8.

Following the success of July's Gunpowder Milkshake, Netflix is offering another glossy action thriller in the form of Kate. Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays an assassin who has been fatally poisoned and has 24 hours to live. With little time left, she plots revenge against her enemies, but also develops an unlikely friendship with the daughter of her former target; expect thrilling action and a bit of introspection in "Kate," which arrives on Netflix on September 10.

Ingmar Bergman's 1973 miniseries "Scenes from a Marriage" has been remade by HBO and will debut on the network's streaming platform this month. The series stars Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain as a married couple and takes place in contemporary America. The series follows the disintegration of the couple's marriage, which spans more than a decade. Bergman's original series is considered a cult classic, so the bar is high for this remake.

"Y: The Last Man" has a very engaging premise. It is set in a world where a mysterious event has simultaneously killed off all mammals with Y chromosomes except for one man and his pet monkey. Diane Lane stars as the newly inaugurated president, with Ben Schnetzer and Olivia Thirlby also in the cast. The series is based on the comic book of the same name and will be available on Hulu starting September 13.

The latest film to be released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max is Cry Macho. This neo-Western drama is directed by Clint Eastwood and stars veteran actors in the lead roles. The film follows a fallen rodeo star who must cross a rural Mexican town to bring a young boy back to Texas; expect a slower pace in "Cry Macho," which will be available on HBO Max beginning September 17.

Netflix's hit comedy series Sex Education returns for its third season this month. The show follows the misadventures of a group of hormonal teenagers at a staid British secondary school. In the latest season, Otis (Asa Butterfield) and his friends return with a load of cringe-worthy and awkward encounters. Plus, there's a time slip at the start of the season, so who knows what's changed, look for it on September 17.

The long-awaited fourth season (confirmed to be the final one) of Dear White People is coming to Netflix this month. The dramatic comedy series follows a group of black students at an Ivy League school as they face a variety of social issues, including racism and cultural appropriation. The show has always provided a powerful examination of the black experience in contemporary America, and this final episode will probably be no different.

One of the more interesting Disney Plus original series debuts in September, Star Wars: Visions, in which a galaxy far, far away is reconstructed "through the lens of the world's best animation creators." Essentially, six Japanese animation studios have been given the freedom to tell original stories based on the Star Wars universe, and on September 22, the nine-episode season will be available on Disney Plus.

The film adaptation of the coming-of-age musical Dear Evan Hansen will be released on September 24. The original play was a huge hit with teens around the world, so there are high expectations for this film version. Starring Ben Platt ("Pitch Perfect"), with Caitlin Dever, Julianne Moore, and Amy Adams in supporting roles. There will be laughter, singing, and perhaps even a tear or two.

"Midnight Mass," a new Netflix horror series from the director of "The Haunting of Hill House," will be a perfect early Halloween treat. The seven-part series tells the eerie story of an island community that falls apart when a charismatic priest arrives on the island and miraculous events begin to take place. Midnight Mass will be available on Netflix on September 24.
