The Netflix episodic documentary series has been renewed and will return in 2022.

News of the show's revival comes from "Deadline," which (as expected) reports that Formula 1: Drive to Survive season 4 will document the 2021 Formula 1 season. is an odd way of putting it, given that the 2021 season is happening right now, and Netflix and F1, who are producing the series, should have already begun filming.

At this point, there is not a lot of information out there right now, but here is what we know so far about Formula 1: Drive to Survive season 4

Season 1 of Drive to Survive will premiere on March 8, 2019, with Season 2 on February 28, 2020, and Season 3 on March 19, 2021. Based on past years, season 4 is expected to be released between late February and mid-March 2022.

Season 3 of Drive to Survive saw a number of long-time fan-favorite drivers leave Formula One. These included Haas Racing's Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean. The veteran drivers were replaced by two rookies, Nikita Mazepin of Russia and Mick Schumacher of Germany; the announcement of Schumacher, whose father is seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, drew considerable attention.

A new face, Hiroki Tsunoda of Japan, will replace Daniil Kubat of Russia in the Alphatauri.

Aside from these three new racers, the remaining drivers are likely to return to the screens several times. Current F1 champion Lewis Hamilton for Mercedes, Max Verstappen for Red Bull, Lando Norris for McLaren, Carlos Sainz for Ferrari, two-time F1 champion Fernando Alonso for Alpine Renault, and Alfa Tauli Pierre Gasly. Omitted from this year's lineup is Red Bull's Alex Albon. He dramatically swapped his Toro Rosso seat for Red Bull's Gasly in season two, but struggled in the 2020 season. He was then replaced by Sergio "Checo" Perez, who was unceremoniously taken away from his Racing Points seat despite finishing fourth overall in the 2020 F1 season. If you haven't seen episode 9 of season 3 yet, there is no doubt that this series is a masterpiece. I'll say this without spoiling anything.

"Drive to Survive" Season 4 saw a major change in the driver lineup. This will create a lot of drama for the series producers for the 2021 racing season.

At the top of the list, Sergio Perez moved to Red Bull, replacing Alex Albon. Albon became the team's reserve driver; according to an article by F1 senior writer Lawrence Barrett, Albon is primarily relegated to the simulator, helping Perez and Max Verstappen better understand the car and the track. Albon is grateful to remain a part of the team, but is looking to eventually return to the grid.

Two rookies at Haas, Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher, are having a tough 2021 season. From crashes to social media snafus, difficult adjustments have been made. In the United States, Romain Grosjean has moved from Dale Coyne Racing to IndyCar. It will also be interesting to see if McLaren's Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo can build the kind of bond that Norris and Sainz established in past seasons. At Mercedes, rumors are already flying that Valtteri Bottas will not renew his contract after the 2021 season and may be replaced by Williams Racing's George Russell.
