Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Watch 4 Delay: Why you may not get your order on time

Samsung seems to have finally nailed the foldable concept with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 after years of iterations. It also created a wearable that can compete with the Apple Watch Series 6 with the Galaxy Watch 4. And with unprecedented demand causing delays in some orders, it seems Android users have been waiting for Samsung to get the right cards.

According to 9to5Google via the German website AllAboutSamsung, users have received emails informing them that their pre-orders have been delayed. As of this writing, Tom's Guide has not been informed of any delays for US and UK buyers.

Citing "high demand," Samsung is delaying orders from August 27 to mid-September. Given the particular complexity of manufacturing the Galaxy Z Fold 3, with its foldable display and complex hinge mechanism, combined with the global chip shortage, it is not too surprising that Samsung is experiencing manufacturing delays.

What is surprising is the demand for Samsung's new foldable handsets: according to The Korea Herald, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are estimated to achieve 800,000 pre-orders in Korea before their official launch on August 27. Demand in the U.S. is also high, with a Samsung representative stating that "Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 pre-orders have already surpassed the total number of Galaxy Z devices sold so far in 2021."

Demand for the Galaxy Watch 4 is particularly surprising given how weakly Android Wear devices have compared to the Apple Watch. For years, Google largely ignored the wearable OS, forcing Samsung to develop its own OS for past devices like the Galaxy Watch 3. However, at the Google I/O 2021 event earlier this year, CEO Sundar Pichai announced that a new version of Android Wear, titled Wear OS, will be available and combine the strengths of Samsung's Tizen.

Given the demand, it seems Android fans have been waiting to purchase a proper Wear OS watch.

As of Wednesday (August 25), both Samsung and Verizon said they would ship new orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 by September 3. AT&T has promised to deliver the foldable phone on August 31 or September 1. T-Mobile has promised to deliver the phone between September 18 and October 8, with the widest and most up-to-date range of delivery dates listed between September 18 and October 8.

Tom's Guide has been in contact with Samsung and will update this article with any information on whether orders in other countries will face delays.
