The Lucid Air Dream Edition boasts the longest range of electric vehicles, even more than Tesla

Overtaking the Tesla Model S Long Range, it appears that the Lucid Air Dream Edition range has a new maximum range EV king.

In a press release, Lucid Group, the developer of the upcoming Lucid Air EV luxury sedan, detailed two new variants. The Dream Edition Performance will be 0.5 seconds shy of the Tesla Model S Plaid's 0-60 time, while the Dream Edition Range will have a range of up to 517 miles.

The Dream Edition Performance boasts 1,111 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds. This is only 0.5 seconds slower than the Tesla Model S Plaid. The Dream Edition Range drops horsepower to 933 hp and has a 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds. However, the Range Edition makes up for the 0.2-second lag with a 517-mile range. Lucid notes that this is not an official EPA range rating, but an independent real-world test.

Along with a Motor Trend journalist, the company traveled from Los Angeles to San Francisco and then drove to Lucid's headquarters in Newark, California. According to Lucid, the trip totaled 445 miles, with the Dream Edition Performance having 30 miles remaining and the Dream Edition Range having 72 miles remaining, for a total of 475 and 517 miles. Both have a top speed of 168 mph.

The Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance and Range are not cheap. They cost $169,000 each ($161,500 after a potential $7,500 U.S. federal tax credit). This places them above the Tesla Model S Plaid, which starts at $129,990. These Lucid EVs are slightly more affordable than the $186,350 Porsche Taycan Turbo S variant.

At this time, Lucid only plans to build 500 Dream Editions, and they are all sold out. However, according to sources close to Inside EVs, Lucid plans to produce a few more. How much is still unknown.
