iPad mini6 unofficial rendering shows new colors and brings rumored specifications to life

As August draws to a close, Apple's annual fall event is fast approaching. Apple's next-generation compact tablet is rumored to have a number of upgrades, including a Touch ID sensor on the power button, an A14 Bionic chip, and a completely reworked design.

We have now spotted a rendered image of the new iPad mini 6 (courtesy of concept designer Michael Ma). The overall design is reminiscent of the current iPad Air 2020, but it will be interesting to see what the rumored larger 8.4-inch display will look like.

Previous iPad mini tablets have come in no more than three color options: gold, space gray, and silver. Apple has had success with recent colorful device launches, from the iMac 2021 and iPhone 12 lineups to the iPad Air 2020. So it makes sense that Cupertino would do the same for more affordable and compact tablets.

The concept design also hints at other new features that correspond to leaks and rumors we have discovered earlier. One of the images shows off an 8.4-inch full-screen Liquid Retina display, while another focuses on a Touch ID sensor integrated into the tablet's power button, similar to what Apple has already implemented on the iPad Air.

From the looks of it, USB-C charging could be on the table as well as Apple Pencil support. The image specifies a third-generation Apple Pencil, which attaches magnetically to the iPad for wireless pairing and charging (similar to how this handy accessory currently works with other iPads).

Overall, the new concept design basically suggests that the rumored iPad mini 6 could be a smaller version of the fourth-generation iPad Air with slimmer bezels and a flat-edged design. And five color options could be named as well: space gray, silver, rose gold, green, and sky blue.

Quite a few reports have hinted that Apple is preparing a new iPad mini 6. The rumors gained further traction after Apple reportedly began surveying Chinese customers to get more feedback based on previously released models.

One of the latest rumors from Techordo claims to have obtained an aluminum mold of what appears to be an iPad mini 6, hinting at a significant design change.

Some sources talk about the possibility of a mini LED display the same size as the 7.9-inch previous model, while others speculate that the iPad mini 6 will feature an 8.4-inch Liquid Retina display. The rumored iPad mini 6 is also said to be powered by the A14 Bionic chip currently found in the latest iPhone 12 model.
