Peloton rowing machines can come soon - the app leaks possible details

It has long been rumored that Peloton plans to add a rowing machine to its home workout equipment, but thanks to the discovery of some hidden Android app code, it appears that the launch may be accelerated.

As discovered by 9to5Google, the latest update to the Peloton app for Android users has references to stroke positions and scenic backgrounds in new lines of code. While there are no specific river or route names, it is believed that, similar to the "Just Ride" feature on Peloton bikes, this background will give users the option to "Just Row" some of the world's most famous waterways.

A code search uncovered two different code names, Mazu and Ceasar. From the features prepared for the app, it is believed that users will be able to measure maximum and average stroke rates as well as track total strokes.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but similar smart rowing machines like the Hydrow cost over $2000; the Peloton Bike starts at $1895 and the treadmill at $2495. Both require a $39/month Peloton subscription fee to access classes.

So far, Peloton has been fairly tight-lipped about the launch. However, a recently posted job ad for a "Senior Product Safety Engineer" mentioned Rohwer for the first time. The job ad has since been removed, but part of the description reads, "The opportunities surrounding Peloton's connected devices are large and growing. These devices will have a huge impact on our daily lives, from small sensor-based devices to powerful devices such as bicycles, treadmills, rowers, and future large-scale products."

The "small sensor-based devices" mentioned in the job ad are believed to be smartwatches after Peloton acquired three different companies: last December, Atlas Wearables, Aiqudo, and Otari. In addition to rumors about wearables, there is speculation that the acquisition of these three companies will result in other interactive technologies, such as smart workout mirrors.

When the rowers will hit the market is still a matter of speculation, but if the code for the Android app is being developed, we may not have to wait much longer.

Peloton experienced significant growth during the pandemic, but in recent months the tech giant has come under fire for recalling its Tread and Tread+ due to safety concerns following the death of a child.
