New movies and TV shows are coming this weekend. Dim the lights, turn on the air conditioning, and open up Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, and other streaming services on your favorite devices.

This weekend's lineup has something for everyone. There's "The Chair," a satirical comedy about a college professor starring Sandra Oh. Adam Driver stars in the bizarre film that was the talk of the Cannes Film Festival. Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley co-star in Big Little Lies, an adaptation of Liane Moriarty's Nine Perfect Strangers.

If you like mental thrillers, "Reminiscence" takes parts of "Minority Report," "Inception," and "Westworld" and puts a twist on them; Issa Rae of "Insecure" is a young black working-class reality series called Debuting "Sweet Life": Los Angeles

Series Premiere | Episodes 1-6 (TV-MA)| Watch Now The always hilarious Sandra Oh is in full force in creator Amanda Peet's sharply satirical comedy about college life. Kim Ji Yoon is the new dean of the English department at Pembroke College, and she is aware that she is the first woman and first person of color to hold the exalted position. She tries to persuade older professors (Holland Taylor, Bob Balaban) to retire, promotes a black female colleague despite institutionalized racism, and dances around a budding romance with her predecessor (Jay Duplass). And on the home front, she is raising her daughter Juhi (Everly Carganilla), who has become a rabble-rouser.

He plays Henry McHenry (really), a standup comedian who falls in love with world-renowned opera singer Anne (Marion Cotillard). Passionate and flamboyant, the couple soon have a daughter, Annette. But as Anne begins to travel and sing around the world, Henry's career begins to falter and his marriage falls apart. After a tragedy, Annette develops magical abilities that astound her father and the world.

Series premiere｜Episodes 1-3 (TV-MA)｜"Nine Perfect Strangers" How to Watch Online If the end of "White Lotus" Season 1 has already left you feeling unsatisfied, here's another dark satire about a wealthy white man with a problem. Creator David E. Kelley and star Nicole Kidman take on the adaptation of Liane Moriarty's novel. The main characters embark on a 10-day retreat at Tranquillum House, a health resort hosted by Marcia (Kidman). However, the resort is not a place of sunshine and healing, but a darkness lurks beneath the surface. And the guests begin to learn disturbing secrets about each other.

Hugh Jackman plays a private detective who uses a machine to access his client's memories. He falls in love with a woman, May (Rebecca Ferguson), who wants him to help her find her lost keys. But when May disappears, Bannister enters his own memories to find out what happened to her.

Season 2 Premiere | Episodes 1-2 (TV-MA) | Watch Now Nora Lynn, played by creator/lead actress Akwafina, hasn't changed much in season 2. She still lives in Queens with her father (BD Wong), grandmother (Lori Tan Chin), and cousin Edmund (Bowen Yang) and is still trying to grow up. She gets a new job and a proposal, but it also interferes with the romance between her father and Brenda (Jennifer Esposito). Season 2 will feature even more spectacular guest stars, including Minari's Alan Kim, Margaret Cho, Alex Borstein, and Haley Joel Osment. Cheryl, a fashion designer, and her former athlete boyfriend, Jerrold, are exploring the next steps in their relationship and career. The cast does not seem too far removed from the characters in Rae's "Insecure," and there are high hopes for future ratings.

Series Premiere | Episodes 1-8 (TV-MA) Netflix offers so many titles each week that it's easy to miss something - like the bare-bones period drama "The Defeated". The series was released on Canal+ last year (titled "Shadowplay") to no great fanfare, and is set in 1946 Berlin and features an international cast that includes Americans Taylor Kitsch and Michael C. Hall. The former plays Max McLaughlin, a Brooklyn NYPD detective who is sent to train the Berlin police to confront the chaos and violence of the post-World War II era. He is also searching for his missing brother.
