According to a new leak, the Google Pixel 5a could have a significantly beefier battery than previous Pixel phones.

The report comes from a source at Android Police, who saw Pixel 5a parts being sent to a phone repair store. He also suggests that the Pixel 5a may have the largest battery of any Google phone.

According to Android Police, the Pixel 5a will have a massive 4,680 mAh battery; the Pixel 4a 5G has 3,885 mAh and the Pixel 5 has 4,080 mAh. The former did not have good battery life, but the latter did, so if this information is correct, we expect the Pixel 5a to be the newest member of our Best Smartphone Battery Life Guide, with an additional 600 mAh and a year's worth of software improvements.

It should be emphasized that the battery information as well as the image shared by Android Police cannot be confirmed to be the Pixel 5a, but it looks very similar to the Pixel 4a 5G, with a rear fingerprint scanner, dual rear cameras, and headphone jack on the top edge shown in the figure. We also expect the return of the punch hole notch in the display, but none of the images show the front of the handset to corroborate this.

AP's sources say the handset feels more rubbery, which would be a noticeable difference from the matte-textured plastic back of the 4a 5G. The power button also appears to be ribbed, so if this phone is going to be a Pixel 5a, it will be another change from past Google phones that have used smooth buttons.

Finally, Android Police reports that the Pixel 5a will be available on August 26 and will cost $450. This is the same as the Pixel 4a 5G and considerably more expensive than the $349 basic Pixel 4a. Then again, if this information proves accurate, the Pixel 5a could offer considerably more than last year's model.
