There have been numerous iPhone 13 rumors over the past few months, but as the release date approaches, more and more highly placed sources are confirming that these are true.

Research by Taiwanese market intelligence firm TrendForce has apparently confirmed several new features rumored for the next iPhone, as well as a significant increase in shipments.

The biggest change Trendforce highlighted is the new implementation of flexible charging and battery circuit boards. This will likely bring an increase in battery capacity to all four rumored iPhone 13 models, with the specific increase depending on the size of the device. iPhone 13 mini is expected to have only a few mAh increase in capacity, while iPhone 13 Pro Max may have an 18% The iPhone 13 Pro Max may see a significant capacity increase of 18%. Either way, the battery life of the iPhone 13 should improve significantly, which is a good thing since the battery life of the iPhone 12 was not very good.

Trendforce does not expect any major changes to the iPhone 13 chipset, but there will still be power and efficiency improvements. The new chip (likely to be named A15 Bionic) is said to use a 5-nanometer process like the A14 chip in the iPhone 12, rather than the more compact 4nm chip expected to appear in next year's iPhone. iPhone 13 chips s size and transistor density will not change significantly from previous iPhones, but it should still see performance gains and help Apple maintain its power lead over its Android rivals.

The iPhone 13's 5G compatibility is also expected to be improved, building on what was introduced in the iPhone 12. While only iPhone 12 models sold in the U.S. offered compatibility with mmWave 5G networks, according to Trenforce, iPhone 13 will offer mmWave and sub6GHz 5G connectivity in all regions, making the phone more future-proof and allowing users to to maintain high data speeds away from home, according to the report.

The report also mentions improvements to the iPhone's display and camera. Regarding the former, it has been widely rumored that Apple will finally introduce a 120 Hz refresh rate on the iPhone 13 Pro model, several years after Samsung, OnePlus, and others began using refresh rates beyond the standard 60 Hz. This could also point to the introduction of an always-on display, another feature common in recent Android phones but previously absent from the iPhone.

Rumored iPhone 13 camera upgrades include sensor-shift image stabilization for the main camera on all models (previously used on the iPhone 12 Pro Max), a new lens for the ultra-wide camera, portrait mode video within the camera app and astrophotography capabilities, and much more.

Other rumored changes not mentioned in the TrendForce report include a reduced notch size for Face ID and the introduction of Touch ID below the display. The latter, however, may have to wait until the iPhone 14, according to more recent reports.

Despite the above upgrade rumors, TrendForce still concludes that the iPhone 13 "will remain similar to the iPhone 12 series, assuming Apple can effectively control manufacturing costs. While that would be good for users who forgo the iPhone 12, we expect Apple to keep one of the iPhone 12 models as a budget option, as it currently offers with the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR.

According to these forecasts by TrendForce (and others), iPhone 13 will be a big seller thanks to this price point retention. according to TrendForce's report, the last time iPhone sales dropped significantly was the iPhone XS TrendForce believes that Apple will learn its lesson and stabilize the price.
