Samsung Galaxy unpacked in 2021/8: Everything to Expect

Update: Follow along with our Samsung Unpacked Live Blog for last minute leaks and all the big news.

Samsung's next Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event will take place today (August 11). And we expect to see the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds 2 wireless earphones debut.

Thanks to all the rumors and leaks before Unpacked, we know pretty much what to expect from Samsung's showcase.

However, there is still a chance for some surprises in the upcoming Unpacked. Just don't expect a Samsung Galaxy Note 21. And the rumored Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is not expected to be revealed until the fall.

So with that in mind, here is everything we know so far and what to expect from Samsung's big showcase.

August 11 is the day of Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2021, and the event begins at 7 a.m. PT, 10 a.m. ET, and 3 p.m. BST Our Galaxy Unpacked 2021 live blog will keep you up to date on the event and our thoughts.

And there are countless places you can watch the event. First, there is the Unpacked 2021 landing page on Samsung's website. However, live streams will also be available on Facebook, Reddit, Twitch, Amazon Live, and Samsung's YouTube (video of the event is embedded below). Additionally, you can follow the event on Samsung's TikTok and Twitter.

Of course, if you'd like to stay in the loop from Tom's Guide, check back for our reactions to this news and future product announcements as they are made.

The most important device coming out of Galaxy Unpacked is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. It is a significant upgrade over its predecessor, especially the under-display selfie camera with a built-in 7.6" display, the powerful Snapdragon 888 chip, 120Hz refresh rate on both the cover and main display, and especially the S Pen support. Noteworthy.

Functionally, there may not be any significant differences between the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 2. However, additional features and tweaks are set to make this model a more desirable foldable phone, and in discussions with display technology experts, the Galaxy Fold 3 could help redefine the foldable phone as we know it. From what we are hearing, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be more durable and offer water resistance.

And a purportedly leaked video gives us another look at the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be joined by the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. Despite its odd naming convention, the Galaxy Flip 3 will be the second generation of the Galaxy Z Flip, taking the flip phone design and modernizing it with a foldable display.

It is expected to have improved overall specs, a larger cover display with more detailed notifications, and 5G connectivity. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is expected to come in shades of beige, gray, dark green, and light violet, and may be more durable than the previous model.

Most interestingly, this new foldable phone may be cheaper than the $1,499 Galaxy Z Flip. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is said to be priced between $999 and $1,099; approaching the $1,000 mark would certainly make the foldable phone more attractive to the masses.

August's Galaxy Unpacked is not likely to be all foldable, as the Galaxy Watch 4 is expected to debut.

We liked the Galaxy Watch 3, but its successor is set to get some major upgrades. The latest rumor is that it will first get a week of battery life, which is comparable to other smartwatches, including the Apple Watch Series 6. It will also include smart features like body composition analysis, which will allow users to measure body fat and track their progress.

In addition, the Galaxy Watch 4 will be powered by Google's Wear OS, which is distinct from Samsung's Tizen platform. Whether or not Google's move to a wearable OS is a wise one will remain to be seen until we actually get our hands on the Galaxy Watch 4.

Based on a number of recent leaks, we'll be taking a fairly significant bet that the rumored Galaxy Buds 2 will make an appearance at Unpacked in August.

Samsung has no shortage of wireless earbuds, with the Galaxy Buds Plus and Galaxy Buds Pro. However, the Galaxy Buds 2 seems to take some of the best features of the current Buds and incorporate them into one package. [Key rumored features include active noise cancellation, IPX7 water resistance, Bluetooth 5.2, and the possibility of connecting to multiple devices at once and bouncing between them. If Samsung can keep the price under $200, it could become a serious competitor to the AirPods Pro.

These are the four key products we expect to see at the Galaxy unpacked showcase in August. It will probably be Samsung's last major event of the year. However, we would not be surprised if several more Samsung products are announced before the curtain closes on 2021.

The aforementioned Galaxy S21 FE is likely. But we will have to wait until next year to see what Samsung has in store for the Galaxy S22, which is said to get a powerful new Exynos chip with AMD graphics, along with an even better camera system.
