iPhone13 - Apple suppliers are reportedly "scrambling" for workers

Apple reportedly expects a lot of demand for the new iPhone 13 when it goes on sale next month, but the company may not be able to keep up. Thus, even if Apple is able to meet its target release date, the wait for the new flagship could be long.

According to a new report from the South China Morning Post (via MacRumors), Apple suppliers in China are struggling to hire enough workers, and as a result they are raising starter bonuses. This means that all tech companies continue to struggle with the continuing chip shortage.

Foxconn Technology Group's factory, which produces about 80% of the world's iPhones, has "raised the bonus for new hires to a record 10,200 yuan (US$1,578) if they work at least 90 days after joining the company. Other suppliers said to be on a hiring spree include Lens Technology and Luxshare Precision.

According to a previous Bloomberg report, Apple is set to produce 90 million iPhone 13 units by the end of the year, a significant 20% increase over 2020. In other words, Apple's biggest need right now is a worker shortage.

With factory jobs reportedly losing their appeal, the challenge seems to be recruiting young people who are willing to work in manufacturing. To address this, Apple continues to diversify its supply chain and recently appointed a third iPhone maker to meet demand.

Will the iPhone 13 be worth all the hype? Rumors suggest many upgrades are in the works, including a smaller display notch, a more powerful and efficient A15 Bionic chip, and a faster 5G modem. But what we are particularly intrigued by is the leaked information on the camera, where the iPhone 13 will reportedly feature a new portrait video mode and an astrophotography mode for capturing the night sky.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are expected to boast 120Hz ProMotion displays with faster refresh rates. The two models may also feature an always-on display. Add the rumored folding optical zoom lens and improved ultra-wide camera, and the new iPhone 13 Pro model is expected to be the most in demand among early adopters.

Although by no means official, we have heard that Apple's event could be held on September 14, so it may not be too long before official invitations are sent out. For the latest news and leaks, visit our iPhone 13 hub.
