iPhone13 battery life can take a big Leap — Here's Why

It's no secret that the otherwise excellent iPhone 12 series has a glaring weakness: battery life. iPhone 12 battery tests show that the current generation of Apple devices last significantly less time than previous models.

Apple is well aware of this Achilles' heel and is looking to address it with the upcoming iPhone 13. and the iPhone 13 Pro Max model jumps from 3,687 mAh to 4,352 mAh. The 6.1-inch regular and Pro models, which share the same cell, both go from 2,815 mAh to 3,095 mAh.

If these numbers sound familiar, it may be because they are the exact same numbers we first heard from our trusted leaker @L0vetodream back in June. And while the difference between the iPhone mini is only about half the capacity of the average smartwatch, the iPhone 13 Pro Max's 665mAh jump should be significant, especially when combined with the power efficiency improvements Apple has allegedly designed in the A15 chip.

If this battery capacity is correct (and we stress that it is just a rumor at this point), it would be an impressive testament to Apple's design skills, as the iPhone 13 feels about the same size as the current generation, according to the dummy unit.

This is likely possible thanks to two rumored improvements. First, Apple has reportedly increased the use of Integrated Passive Devices (IPDs) in the iPhone's peripheral chips. These are slimmer, take up less space, and can make a little more room for other components.

Second, it was reported last year that the iPhone 13 will be the first Apple phone to use a softboard battery, which has fewer layers and allows for greater capacity in the same physical footprint.

Apple could have used these advantages to make the iPhone 13 even slimmer while keeping battery capacity unchanged, but phone stamina is far more important to most buyers. Hopefully this rumored commitment to battery life will continue with the iPhone 14.

And overall, the iPhone 13 looks to be a decent upgrade over its predecessor, with a 120Hz display and new camera hardware on the Pro model, improved camera capabilities, a slimmer notch, and 5G enhancements expected on all models. We predict we will see the iPhone 13 series debut in September.
