Paramount Plus expands to Europe and the UK next year — it's free for some

Paramount Plus has found a passport; ViacomCBS Networks International and Sky have announced that the service will launch in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria in 2022.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but will be free for some. Specifically, Deadline notes that Paramount Plus will essentially be offered alongside Sky Cinema (starting at £11/month for Sky customers).

Paramount Plus is offered via Sky, so customers will need to subscribe to Sky's service before adding Paramount Plus. It appears that an undisclosed fee will be required to receive the service.

Why should these audiences care about the latest streaming service, which has not exactly taken off, even among Americans, with over 10,000 hours of content to be offered, including 14 "South Park"-like Paramount Plus exclusive content will be included.

Other recent hits include the reboot of iCarly, spin-offs of 1883 and 6666 Yellowstone, a revival of Frasier starring Kelsey Grammer, a revival of Criminal Minds, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, and other shows in the world of The Legend of Korra.

In addition, the deal guarantees that big Paramount Pictures series such as Mission Impossible and Transformers will continue to air on Sky Cinema in the UK. They will also air on Sky Cinema in Germany and Italy in 2022.

The news comes about a week after Comcast announced that Peacock will be introduced on Sky in the UK and Europe in the coming months. That was not 2021, though; Peacock will be free to all Sky customers, as Comcast owns both companies. Comcast will then expand to more countries.

Right now, HBO Max, Peacock, and Paramount Plus are mostly in the U.S., although Paramount Plus arrived in the Nordic countries in March and will arrive in Australia on August 11; HBO Max has yet to announce an international rollout; Peacock is in the U.S. and will be in Australia on August 11.
