Marvel may have just taken out one of its series from the MCU Canon 1

The latest episode of "Marvel Legends" has begun on Disney Plus ahead of next week's "What If?" broadcast. The rerun series aims to bring viewers up to date on key events in the MCU and may confirm that previous Marvel series are no longer considered canonical.

The first episode of "What If" will focus on what would have happened if Peggy Carter had been administered the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. So, naturally, the latest episode of "Marvel Legends" is dedicated to Carter herself. However, the events of Peggy's own series "Agent Carter" are completely ignored in the compilation.

Only Carter's appearance in the MCU film and a scene from the 2013 "Agent Carter" one-shot are included. This is important because the latter directly contradicts the events depicted in the Agent Carter television series. This almost certainly suggests that Marvel now considers the show to be unorthodox.

Agent Carter was a series that aired for two seasons on ABC between 2015 and 2016. It was generally well received by fans and there was some disappointment when the series was canceled due to Disney's desire to focus on original programming for its upcoming streaming service, which eventually became Disney Plus.

This would not be the first time a Disney Plus series has essentially written out previous shows from the MCU canon. Wander Vision and Loki feature plot points and references that directly contradict the events contained in another ABC series, Agents of SHIELD: Endgame, where Steve Rogers decided to stay in the past and the timeline was changed. It is. However, it is more likely that Marvel Studios does not consider the pre-Disney Plus series as part of the MCU.

The fact that Marvel Studios considers pre-Wondervision series non-canon will come as no great shock to meticulous fans. Last month, "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn explained on Twitter that these earlier TV shows were not seen as having anything to do with the MCU.

Several Marvel series were available on Netflix before Disney Plus launched. These included shows focusing on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. Marvel has not yet indicated whether these shows will be considered part of the MCU canon, but there are rumors that Charlie Cox (Daredevil) may appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. [The first episode of "What If" will be available on Disney Plus on August 11. It was also recently announced that the "Hawkeye" series will be coming to the streaming service in November. After that, more MCU movies and series will be added, all of which will almost certainly be canon.
