Stranger Things Season 4 has almost done the filming - expect news very soon

We've been waiting for official release date information on Season 4 of [Stranger Things] all spring and summer, looking for details in cast interviews. But our wait for the tiniest bit of information may finally be over.

Shawn Levy, director and executive producer of "Stranger Things," revealed that the Netflix show will "give the world a rough idea" about "Stranger Things" Season 4 by August 13. This could be read as Netflix revealing a window for the release date, such as "summer 2022," but it is not clear. We hope it is not "2022," as that would be a much more likely date.

Levy shared these details with Collider's Steve Weintraub. When asked about announcing a release date, he said, "I'm kind of tag-teaming with my brothers and directing it. So we're not done shooting yet. [It's] almost done. All I can say is that by the time this airs, the public will at least have a general idea of what's going on. I can't say more than that. By the time Free Guy comes on the air on August 13, some of the answers will be revealed."

What if it sounds like Netflix has very tight control over all information? We wouldn't be surprised. Maya Hawke (Robin) told Collider, "We're not allowed (to reveal) when (filming) will end." According to Levy, there will be a "little taste" accompanying the information we get in the next nine days, not a full trailer. In other words, Netflix clearly intends to treat this as a big event.

The fact that Stranger Things Season 4 is "coming to a close" is noteworthy because it means that it will be moving into a post-production cycle. Since "Stranger Things" is an effects-heavy series, this will take a lot of time and will likely push it into 2022.

David Harbour (Sheriff Hopper) of "Black Widow" previously said on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he thinks the show "should" finish filming in August. If this is true, we should expect an April 2022 release based on the eight-month period between the end of Season 3 and when the show airs.

The 2022 projection was first set by series star Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), who told Fanmio, "Season 4 is ...... It should be out sometime next year if possible."
