This August is jam-packed with new shows and movies on various streaming services, including Netflix, HBO Max, and Disney Plus, with tons of can't-miss content coming out in the next month.

Summer movies are still in full swing as studios rush to send as many summer films as possible to streaming platforms and movie theaters that were delayed due to the pandemic. This month will see the release of major films such as "Suicide Squad" and "Free Guy," as well as the highly anticipated horror film "Candyman."

Meanwhile, the summer TV season will kick off with Disney Plus launching Marvel's first animated series, "What If? In addition, the blockbuster hits "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "The Walking Dead" will return for their final seasons this month. "Suicide Squad," directed by "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn, washes away the disappointment of 2016's "Suicide Squad" with a new look at a motley crew of bad guys. While Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn, most of the old cast members are departing, while new faces like Bloodsport (Idris Elba) and Peacemaker (John Cena) join the team, as well as a humanoid shark voiced by Sylvester Stallone. All of this will air on HBO Max on August 6.

The first animated series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe premieres this month and aims to answer the question posed in the title. What if certain events in the MCU had played out a little differently? For example, what if Peggy Carter had been dosed with the Super Solider serum instead of Steve Rogers, or what if our favorite Marvel heroes had been turned into zombies? ...... This anthology series, while not a canon film, should give us a unique perspective on the much-loved Marvel universe. The voice cast is also very impressive, with Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, and Tom Hiddleston reprising their roles in the MCU.

The hugely popular "Kissing Booth" trilogy concludes in August, with Elle torn between her best friend Lee and her boyfriend Noah. Nevertheless, while the franchise has never been a critical darling, it has garnered an army of rabid fans, and there will no doubt be tissues ready for the emotional finale of this teen love story. Kissing Booth 3 will be available on Netflix on August 11.

The beloved sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine will begin its swan song this month. The show has always had an underdog's guts and has been on the verge of being cancelled several times, but this year the doors of the police precinct will close for good. Season 8 will consist of only 10 episodes, but it will be enough time for fans to say goodbye to their beloved Nine-Nine squad. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the best sitcoms of the last decade, so if you missed the original broadcasts over the last few years, this is a great opportunity to catch up ahead of the finale.

After having its release date postponed three times due to the pandemic, "Free Guy" finally opens this month. At this point it feels like a relic of a previous era, but having opted for a theatrical release only, you'll have to venture out of your living room to see this film. Ryan Reynolds plays an ordinary guy in this high-concept comedy who discovers that he is actually a video game character and must save his world, which has been shut down by the developer.

"Beckett," starring John David Washington, star of last summer's "Tenet" and son of film legend Denzel Washington, follows an American tourist who becomes the target of manhunters after a devastating accident. Alicia Vikander co-stars, and Netflix is hoping the film will become an explosive action thriller like "Extraction," which starred Chris Hemsworth last April.

Nicole Kidman and writer/producer David E. Kelley are teaming up again following the success of Big Little Lies to adapt another Liane Moriarty novel: Nine Perfect Strangers. The series is quite intriguing as it follows people on a wellness retreat where things are not quite what they seem. The cast includes Luke Evans, Michael Shannon, and Melissa McCarthy, and the series will debut on Hulu in mid-August.

All good things must come to an end, and to be honest, "The Walking Dead" has long since become a zombie of the once great thriller series. This year it will end with its 11th season. Once the most popular show on television, its popularity has all but waned in recent years. But hordes of devoted fans are still around and will no doubt miss it as it disappears from the screen. There are still multiple spin-off shows in the works, as well as a movie focusing on Rick Grimes. The flagship may finally be coming to an end, but there is still plenty of life left in the "Walking Dead" franchise.

"The Witcher" Season 2 will be released in December, but Netflix is delivering a feature-length "The Witcher" before that: Nightmare of the Wolf. The animated film focuses on Geralt's mentor and fellow Witcher, Vesemir. Not much is known about the plot, but the first teaser trailer definitely caught our attention. Expect a dark tale packed with terrifying monsters. The Witcher Nightmare of the Wolf will be available on Netflix on August 23.

The sequel to this 1992 cult classic is another film whose release date was repeatedly pushed back, but Universal finally settled on August 27. Co-written by Jordan Peele, this reimagining of Candyman is technically a spiritual sequel to the original, but even first-timers should enjoy it. It's not Halloween season yet, but this could be the scariest movie of the year. Since it's only in theaters, you won't have to see it, at least not alone.
