Samsung Galaxy S Pen Pro rumors suggest expensive stylus for Galaxy Z times 3

We've seen plenty of compelling leaks and reports about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, questions remain about a feature that Samsung has already confirmed for its next foldable device: compatibility with the S Pen.

A tweet claiming to have specs regarding the S Pen Pro spotted by SamMobile may clear up the confusion and give us a better idea of the stylus Samsung has at work.

Leaker chunvn8888 - who has shared other Samsung tips in the past - took to Twitter with a list purporting to be specs and details about the previously announced Samsung S Pen Pro. That stylus will have additional features that this year's Galaxy S21 Ultra S Pen lacked.

We can't say for sure if this information is accurate until Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on August 11, when the new S Pen will appear alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Still, this information is consistent with previous official details and other leaked information from reliable sources.

As we previously heard directly from Samsung, unlike the S Pen that began shipping with the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the new larger and more robust S Pen Pro will feature Bluetooth LE connectivity. Like the S Pen on the previous Galaxy Note 20, Bluetooth will open up additional features beyond tapping and drawing on the screen, such as using the stylus to manipulate media, take photos, etc.

Leeker suggests that the S Pen Pro may be specifically designed to work without damaging the Galaxy Z Fold 3 foldable phone's flexible screen and feature a 0.7mm tip and 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. We have also heard about a supposed "S Pen Fold Edition" stylus, but the main differences between the stylus models are currently unknown.

Like other non-Galaxy Note models, previous Galaxy Z Fold models were not able to use the S Pen, in part due to the fragility of the foldable display. However, the tech giant expanded S Pen support to other handsets this year, starting with the aforementioned Galaxy S21 Ultra.

In recent weeks, a number of leaked images have emerged from reliable sources claiming to show the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and they depict a device that, like the Galaxy S21 Ultra, lacks a Note-like slot for holding and charging a stylus.

Chunvn8888 writes that the S Pen will attach magnetically to the back of certain Galaxy Z Fold 3 cases. A recently leaked Galaxy Z Fold 3 leather case from 91mobiles has a slot for the S Pen along the back of the phone, similar to what chunvn8888 suggests here, but the slot could be for a different S Pen model.

It is also said that the S Pen Pro will be charged via a USB-C connection, as there are leaked reports that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 does not have a slot for charging. Again, these are not official details, but they are consistent with previous claims about the new stylus.

Finally, the leaker suggests that the Samsung S Pen Pro could cost around £70 in the UK. If true, this would be slightly less than $100 in the U.S., but there is often not as serious a disparity in pricing from the U.K. to the U.S. as the exchange rate would suggest. For example, the simpler S Pen "S21 Ultra" sells for £34 in the UK and $40 in the US

Still, after Samsung officially launches the Galaxy Z Fold 3, or if it bundles that accessory with the foldable phone, we need to find out how much it plans to sell the S Pen Pro foldable stylus. We will hear more about the S Pen along with the new Galaxy Z Flip 3 at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 3 event on August 11.
